I stopped listening to TV news years ago. I did used to listen to NPR in my car, then I went to listening to podcasts of political shows. When I read SOGR, I quit all of that and now listen only to SOGR in my car unless I have someone with me or I'm on the phone.
Recently, I was waiting for my car at a full service car wash. (That's a lovely luxury!) Anyway, the TV was on. I mostly ignored it while I worked on a life lab exercise. When I was done, someone turned up the TV because the news was on. They opened with some crazy person doing something horrible. A man was staring at the TV. I said aloud, " Do we really have to listen to this?" "Ummmm," he said, still staring at the screen. When they started to give the gory details, I got up to go. I said, "Why would anyone want to know that?" The man never took his eyes off the TV as he mumbled, "I don't know." I walked out the door, sat in the sunshine, and pretended I was at the beach until the car was ready. What did I learn from that experience? TV news is icky and I don't want it on me. I'm in the middle of LL9 right now and finding the quiet so blessed. The only thing I'm still having to fight is that when I got to Yahoo for my mail, the headlines are right there so I try to avert my eyes. :-) Overall, this has been a great experience!!! I realized I used news to procrastinate when i was on the internet - instead of just working I would read my favorite news sites.
It is just garbage!!! |

Lissa Anne,
I know what you mean about the internet. I solved that by getting my email addresses all routed through Outlook or MS Mail. Plus, I keep my sogr tabs open in my computer, so that as soon as I log onto the internet, these forums pop up instead of Yahoo, or some other home page. I love starting my day with reading and posting here. It helps me feel good and stay focused. Also, the more you stay away from that garbage, the less you want it. It does get easier. Love and Blessings! Rachel |

Friends, how about this:
There are times when we DO want to know what's going on in our communities or in our world. And so we can be grateful and appreciate the people who bring us the information that is of value to us then. But it's like a giant buffet, available 24/7. You can go to the buffet and take what you want. You don't have to pull up a chair and try to eat it all, all day long. Just take what you want when it will SERVE you. Love & blessings, and, of course-- EXPECT Success! Rebecca |

Me too i turn it off when others are in my car too but if they want to listen I let them, I love driving around listening and missed it so much when I lost one of my CDs (found now) Listening this way really has made it clearer to me and have also had some moments that its was like hearing it for the first time too, so it is a highly recommended practice to do from me, Also I love what Rebecca said about eating only the bits of news you like. once a day is OK for a nibble as the rest often repeats itsself, and could make you sick. too much chocolate can make you sick too, hmmm thats a point. ○ Because all things have contributed to my advancment, I include all things in my gratitude. |
