"If you have held some underlying beliefs that money is bad or that your gain would mean someone elseâ™s loss, be sure you donâ™t just slap a Band-Aid on that before you go on. Do what it takes to choose a new viewpoint if you need one.
Otherwise you will be unconsciously straining against invisible chains" (from LL3)

In light of the previous admonition in LL3
I am still having some challenges with the following Statement.
â The love of money is the root of all evilâ
1 Tim.6:10 KJV
But my thought is
if you donâ™t love or align yourself with money â¦it wonâ™t come to you.
Can I get some of your thoughts in regards to this statement? Confused

THANK YOU in advance for helping me clear up the confusion in my head Smile

My understanding of the biblical direction is that the love of money, in itself, is evil as it means that the sole focus of an individual was to attain money at the expense of all other things. (And it may be infered that this pursuit of money is competitive, rather than creative.)

This is not what Mr Wattles and SOGR refers to. The SOGR teaching is to pursue the benefits that money provides (the book sites the example of a new rug and coal stove), and to do this in balance (mind, body, and soul), and creatively rather than competitively.

I haven't had a conflict with these two different teachings.

I think the phrase in total is "The love of money above all else is evil" - Can you see the whole truth now? I can!

Hi again,
had a quick look, and the New King James translation puts it this way:

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Note the reference to greediness - I think this will help keep it in perspective.

I'd always interpreted this as "love of money" to the exclusion of all else.

Money in and of itself isn't a bad thing, nor is the aspiration to acquire more of it, but not if it takes over your life - that's money tunnel vision.

First I want to thank you all for giving me a broader understanding of the quotation.
That was very helpful.
I donâ™t want to mislead you into thinking that receiving money was a challenge for me.
As a matter of fact, in most circles I am considered pretty well off financially.
I have the big house the expensive new cars, money in the savings.
Even after the 2002 stock market crash I still have a fairly large stock portfolioâ¦
So receiving has never been an issue.
I was just concerned that the small conflict in my head was pinching the flow of money and abundance coming to me.
(not receiving ALL I could receive.)

When the non-lovers of money or those who believe that the love of money is evil put the quotation to me, I found it difficult to defend.
(Not that I needed to)
From now on when someone says to me that the love of money is the root of evil
My response will be â¦
The LACK of money is one of roots of evil.

Again thank you WendyP61, Bal, Noël, Bruce and especially David G for taking the time to give me your in-depth explanationâ¦
Iâ™ve added your names to the list of those I will invite to the open house of my penthouse.
(date to be announced) Cool

Happycharlie,
may I suggest a very interesting book indeed that might help you. It certainly helped me, since I've had exactly the same problem with relation to money.
"The seven stages of money maturity", (Understanding the spirit and value of money in your life)
by George Kinder. He is a certified financial planner and a member of the US National Association for Personal Financial Advisors.
The book has certainly been an eye oppener for me, and helped me tremendously in understanding the whole concept of money.
Hope this has helped
