I originally posted this message in the wrong forum, so I am re-posting it here with the two responses I received in the hopes that more people will read it and join the discussion on affirmations.

Hello! I have a question about the fist step of the SGR(Thoughts turning into things)and how it applies to positive affirmations.

As I understand the first step, our thoughts will manifest into the material realm. So we should think about positive things and picture the results we want. I have used positive affirmations (mostly silently rather than out loud) to help me keep my thoughts on a positive track. Now to my questions:

1. Are positive affirmations usefull in training our minds to keep thinking the thoughts we want to manifest? Or are affirmations best used seperately?

2. I have been confused about a certain thought or affirmation I have been using. I want to have 10 million dollars in the bank (in one form or another). Should my affirmation be: I will have 10 million dollars in the bank or I have 10 million dollars in the bank?

The first one is positive and assumes that it will happen, which is good. However, is the second one better becuase it theoretically causes me to start acting as if I had the money (which will help me get it) or am I just fooling myself? (given that I only have about 2,000 dollars in the bank and I know it is not true).

Hope this was not too confusing. I am just trying to fine tune my thinking to get rich!

Thanks
Matt

Hi gobig,

Chapter 8 states "Think and speak of all the things you have asked for in terms of actual present ownership. Imagine an environment and a financial condition exactly as you want them, and live all the time in that mental environment and financial condition until they take physical shape" (pg 23).

To that end I say use the second affirmation 'I have'.

Also, to answer your first question Wattles states "When you have formed it (your vision), it is well to make an oral statement, addressing the supreme in gratitude" (chpt8, pg23).

So I'd say, make your affirmation a STATEMENT OF GRATITUDE (out loud) that you have received your vision.

That's how I make my affirmations now, as statements of gratitude to the formless. And yes, I believe it helps a lot.

Hope this helps you

Always riching,
Marilyn

PS: I think you were wanting to put this on the "Let's Talk it Over" forum.

Yes....affirmations are a wonderful way to re-program your mind. Use present tense. However you might want to start with a smaleer step. For example if you currently have $150 in the bank..instead of saying you have $10 million...start with aaffirmation that stattes you have $1000 in the bank....and as it hapeens ..stair step your way up eventually be at the $10 million dollar mark. The biggest reasons affirmation do not SEEM to work is that your mind adds a "tag line" or a ps to the end of you affiramation. For example you may affirm $10 million thousands of times and each time your mind adds something like( ya right ...I cant even pay the rent....or not in this lifetime...etc etc etc) This "Tag line" then serves to nullify your affirmation until you become frustrated and declare like many have :
" affirmation dont work!" and give up on them.
However ...they DO work! .....1. start smaller and build up 2. watch your thinking as you are stating your affirmation.. ( again become AWARE)
Hope this helps a little.

Joe
