Hi all,

I have a question about action and one about thinking in the certain way.

On the one hand, Wally says never act out of fear or doubt. On the other hand, he says to act now, that action overcome fear. Is this a contradiction, or am I missing something here? I understand about taking small steps and holding the vision with faith and purpose, but I'm still not quite sure about this issue of acting out of fear vs. waiting vs. procrastination. Can you clarify, Rebecca?

Also, something happened recently. My boss did something that caused me to not get a bonus I should have gotten which I sorely need right now. I am working to overcome anger and resentment. It dawned on me that anger toward my boss is coming from scarcity thinking, thinking that my good can only come from one place, that someone can withold my good or cause me not to get it. That would seem to be competitive mind at work. If I know I am wealthy then receiving that bonus would seem
inconsequential. I'm still not there, but that is the perspective I'm working on. Am I on the right track in the certain way in this insight?

Best to all,
Diesel

Good noticing, diesel.

And now let's take it a bit further. (Thanks for bringing this up and giving me the opportunity to point this out to ALL of us, because we all do this, and I'm not criticizing you in any way -- just pointing out what we ALL do or have done up 'til now.)

The truth is that your boss didn't -- and CANNOT -- do anything to prevent what is yours from coming to you. Only YOU can create in your own experience.

So it's your own thoughts that have led to this occurrence. It's been a journey of many steps and along the way there have been COUNTLESS times when you could have turned your thoughts in the direction that would be in harmony with your desire, but instead you turned them toward lack.

Every time we make that choice -- and we've been totally unconscious of those times up 'til now -- we've taken a step toward what we do NOT want.

And then we're surprised when it shows up -- or when it becomes clear that some sort of seeming disaster is looming. (For example: seeing bankruptcy or losing one's home or becoming penniless or the like.)

None of those things happens out of the blue. ALL of them (and everything else) happen as a result of our habitual thinking, our attitudes, the things we choose to give our attention to every day.

We feel surprised somehow but we've had endless warnings from our own inner guidance. Those warnings come in the form of feelings -- and anything that doesn't feel good to you shows you where you're headed, where your thoughts are focused.

This is what SOGR and this course are really all about: Learning to notice, pay attention, choose something different.

It's a skill. It takes practice to get good at it -- just as (up 'til now) most of us got really, really good at imagining and expecting the worst, worrying, envying, blaming, feeling sorry for ourselves or even sorry for OTHERS.

But right now is where we are and right now is where we have power. Not in the past (although there IS a way we can sort of erase painful past stuff and I'll share that with you shortly), and not in the future since we aren't there yet.

But right now we each have total control over our own thoughts and how we choose to look at things. Recognizing that there is no one out there who is creating my experience gives me power. It means I recognize that I'm not a helpless victim but a powerful creator and NOW I can create something better. Because now I know I can and I'm learning how.

Love & blessings, and, of course--
EXPECT Success!
Rebecca

Great! Please report on how it's working out - rest assured, I try and put that approach to work every day, too - if it's not your first instinct, it takes some time to integrate but as Wattles writes, "there is no talent of which you have not at least the rudiment" - and "any rudimentary talent can be developed" - I take that approach instinctively when learning to play a new musical instrument, it helps to remember to apply that approach to business dealings too! Thanks for your great insight and advice, the spence man. That being decisive and taking action and trusting it will all work out somehow approach is one I need to work on.
I can be very indecisive at times. I will experiment with being more like your friend.

Wishing you all the best,
Diesel

A few thoughts in response:

I too have always enjoyed the seeming contradiction of two maxims: "Look before you leap" and "He who hesitates is lost." Smile

But I learned from a good friend who made his fortune in international banking this tip/insight into his particular formula for success, which I think fits perfectly with Wattles' writing: he said a key to his success and temperament in business (and in life) was that he was never afraid to take an action, make a decision - whatever happened he would just take as feedback and keep moving forward. If it worked, great, he'd continue on. If it didn't work out, or if a problem arose from it, he'd just adjust things the next day.

It's a remarkably neurosis-free approach which every time I emulate, things work out just fine. It gives you a confidence to "act now" but not out of doubt or fear - just curiosity and confidence. No one can predict the future (I think Wattles writes that we ought not to try to read the mind of g-d or do occult stuff) - you just proceed with confidence and curiosity - most things in life come with an "edit button" or a "return policy" - or you can simply get into the frame of mind, as my friend did, which says mistakes are no big deal, it's just information you need to get to success. Take things one at a time, don't rush (as Wattles implores us not to!), and no need for doubt or fear - just act now, act today, do stuff that's on today's agenda, and take care of tomorrow when it comes - you'll have new information, hopefully good results, but obstacles only appear to be obstacles and will melt away if you go on in the certain way....

Re: the bonus - one thought I have is that you're right, your good won't only come from your boss, or the bonus - "should have gotten" sounds a little too controlled and predictive to me (given the admonition not to try to read the mind of g-d) -

"If I know I am wealthy then receiving that bonus would seem inconsequential" you write --

which reminds me of the "If you think you need to have this to get that, what you really want is that, not this" i.e. what did you want to do with that bonus? A vacation? A new car? College tuition? A new kitchen? Then you're right, what you want may be coming to you in other forms and from other more direct sources than your boss!

Thanks for the post Smile
