I recently read a post about instant CMI's (that's Clear Mental Images.) I decided to give it a try.
My daughter had been asking for over a week how she could look great at her Theatre banquet this weekend. (Yes, the same daughter and the same weekend as the band banquet mentioned before.) The theatre banquet was Tim Burton themed and she wanted to be Sally from the Nightmare Before Christmas. Great choice, but kind of a complex costume. We had found a few for sale online, but they were pretty expensive, and not really that great. I decided that I really wanted to work on this project with my daughter. I envisioned us shopping for materials, making the outfit, then her looking great and getting a great response from her friends. Especially, I envisioned us having a wonderful time together. Now, keep in mind that I am not a seamstress, I don't own a sewing machine, and neither of us really had a clear idea of how to approach this project. I decided to ignore all that. I decided to be open about how the outfit would be made, or even if it had to be Sally. I had a few ideas, but we were really down to the wire on time. We had exactly 7 hours from the time she got out of rehearsal at noon Saturday, to the time the banquet started at 7pm Saturday night. But I was not worried. On the contrary, I was excited to be doing this fun activity with my daughter! We had a leisurely lunch with the rest of the family, then made a cursory stop at the local costume store (they were closed.) Then the fun part started. We went to Good Will and found several things that looked like good raw materials for what we wanted, then went to the party store and bought some red hair spray. Everything else, we were counting on having at home. We still weren't rushing. We stopped at the grocery store and to get gas, and ran one other errand, too. When we got home, we spread everything out on the bed and started cutting and trying on. We ended up painting a white dress and drawing the black parts on with a magic marker. We had a blast! It was a great team effort, and she looked great! The best part was when she walked into the room where the banquet was being held. She was greeted by an enthusiastic chorus of "Dora! You look soooo cute! Let me get a picture!" etc. The smile on her face was priceless. It was exactly what I had envisioned in my CMI only better! The weird part is that 6 weeks ago, I might have been "too busy" to help her with this project. But thanks to SOGR I realize that I'm never too busy to do something wonderful. Blessings to all, and remember -- it really does work! Rachel |

Sounds like being creative not competitive also played a big part! Be good to yourself, live life passionately and always, always expect success!! I don't know how long I will live, but I'll live until I die!! Tom Strong |
