How good things are NOW!

So the other morning I decided that perhaps I was a bit too focused on where I wanted to be versus where I actually was, and that was setting up a space of lack in my thoughts - a crevasse between where I am now and where I am going.

Sooooo..... I took out a notebook and wrote at the top of the page, " How good things are NOW". After about 5 minutes of listing everything that I was experiencing at that time that was really good (and there is a lot of it), I felt so much energy flowing that I couldn't sit still! And one of the things I decided to appreciate was my job (a huge source of dissatisfaction in the past) and the lovely people I've worked with, although I will be leaving it at the end of this week.

Anyway, later that day one of my co-workers, an artist, offered to design a logo for me (I'm quitting my job and starting a new career) free of charge! I know that it happened as a result of my attitude shift.... And I've seen it happen over and over, that if I set my mood very high first thing in the morning, magical things pop up for me during the day. It was very powerful to realize that wonderful things could come from a place (my job) that I had been resenting up to that point.

So now that I'm posting this I'm making a commitment to myself to write, every morning, a page about how good things are now! I'll let y'all know how it goes.....

Happiness and prosperity to all,

Laura

I understand there is a course or something that someone posted on before called "morning pages". I think I will join you in writing a page every morning on how good things are and add a little bit at the bottom about what I can do today from right where I am now that will help forward me TO my goal and vision - if I can't put my pond in I can at least dig a hole where it will go !!!!

Hello Laura:

You are so right-on in enjoying the life you have now. Many times we think that life would be better, if only....this, or that, or when I get here or there. It is wonderful to realize that we are rich right now and to enjoy every single moment of every day. That is not to say that you do not want to grow, it's just saying that "I love life now, and I will continue to love it as I grow."

On another note, but still regarding your post, the death of Ann Landers (okay, I cheated on the news fast, again) brought to mind a poem she had printed in her column a couple of times; I think this suits you well:

THE STATION

Tucked away in our subconscious is an idyllic vision. We see ourselves on a long trip that spans the continent. We are travelling by train. Out the windows we drink in the passing scene of cars on nearby highways, of children waving at a crossing, of cattle grazing on a distant hillside, of smoke pouring from a power plant, of row upon row of corn and wheat, of flatlands and valleys, of mountains and rolling hillsides, of city skylines and village halls.

But uppermost in our minds is the final destination. On a certain day, at a certain hour we will pull into the station. Bands will be playing and flags waving. Once we get there so many wonderful dreams will come true, and the pieces of our lives will fit together like a completed jigsaw puzzle. How restlessly we pace the aisles, damning the minutes for loitering - waiting, waiting, waiting for the station.

When we reach the station, that will be it! we cry:

When I'm 18....
When I buy a new 450SL Mercedes Benz!
When I put the last kid through college.
When I have paid off the mortgage!
When I get a promotion.
When I reach the age of retirement, I shall live happily ever after.

Sooner or later we must realize there is no station, no one place to arrive at once and for all. The true joy of life is the trip. The station is only a dream. It constantly outdistances us. "Relish the moment" is a good motto, especially when coupled with Psalm 118:24: "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." It isn't the burdens of today that drive men mad. It is the regrets over yesterday and the fear of tomorrow. Regret and fear are twin thieves who rob us of today. So, stop pacing the aisles and counting the miles. Instead, climb more mountains, eat more ice cream, go barefoot more often, swim more rivers, watch more sunsets, laugh more, cry less. Life must ve lived as we go along. The station will come soon enough...

Yes, you have it right Laura, enjoy your life today, just as it is, gratitude for today is a great thing. A lot of people don't realize how truly precious their day is, and then one day they look back at all their family pictures and think "boy, those were the good times." You are really rich when you realize that TODAY is "the good times." Good for you, Laura!! (And all this will not prevent you from growing, even more).

Have a GREAT life!

In the past year I've become intrigued by the Zen philosophy of living in the moment. Laura's post, and the replies that followed, reminded me of something that I once read. The past is history. The future is yet to happen. All that we have is now. This moment is a gift. That's why it's called the present.
The universe is in perfect order. We're all here, learning, sharing, because all of the countless choices that we've made in the past have brought us here. We're not here by chance. We're here because we chose to be.
Don't regret past mistakes. Don't worry needlessly about the future. Enjoy this moment, now.

Great job Laura & Lori,

I remember my wife and a friend, Lavon were cool going on a 6 mile walk on the beach one summer. they had walked a long distance from their hotel and were real thirsty. They did not remember to bring any money for a drink. As they were walking, a snow cone vendor was nearby. My wife walked up to him with her friend and said they were real thirsty and needed a drink. could he please give them a drink and they would come back and pay him. the man agreed and gave them a cold snow cone.
My wifes friend said How are we going to ever find him to come and pay him. My wife said oh Lavon, enjoy the moment.
