I am curious as to what is meant by impressing a thought upon the formless. It seems from the phrase that its not enough just thinking about the CMI, it also needs 'Impressing upon the formless'. Anyone have an idea what is meant here? Regards John |

Hi John,
Rebecca's comments are much like something I wanted to add to the forum today. I was thinking about doubts and how people write in and say 'what do I do about them?' And I thought, really, the best thing to do is watch what the specific recurring doubt is - if you're like me it's always the same doubtful idea popping up again and again. Then go through SOGR looking for ideas that resolve that specific doubt for you. Mark them, and as soon as any doubt appears, you can go directly to those particular passages that specifically address your personal recurring issue. |

Hi Rebecca
Thank you, your words ring true. It reminds me of the 'Burning Desire' that Napoleon Hill describes in Think and grow rich. Regards John |

John, you'll find your answer right in SOGR (and in the course as you progress).
If you'll reread the book with this idea in mind (wanting to see what this means more clearly), you will definitely see it more clearly. Here are a few "hints" from Wally and the book that I personally think make the meaning crystal clear: All you need is to know what you want and to want it badly enough so that it will stay in your thoughts. No one needs to take exercises to concentrate his mind on a thing which he really wants. It is the things you do not really care about which require effort to fix your attention upon them. The more clear and definite you make your picture then, and the more you dwell upon it, bringing out all its delightful details, the stronger your desire will be. And the stronger your desire, the easier it will be to hold your mind fixed upon the picture of what you want. If you want a sewing machine, for instance, I do not mean to tell you that you are to impress the thought of a sewing machine on thinking substance until the machine is formed without hands, in the room where you sit or elsewhere. But if you want a sewing machine, hold the mental image of it with the most positive certainty that it is being made or is on its way to you. After once forming the thought, have the most absolute and unquestioning faith that the sewing machine is coming. Never think of it or speak of it in any other way than as being sure to arrive. Claim it as already yours. Now, to anyone reading this, please note those last two sentences. They are extremely important because here on this forum we see CONSTANTLY people doing exactly the opposite of this -- and that, of course, brings them the opposite of what they desire. So, truly, when you feel agitated or doubtful, instead of talking about it here or anywhere, you will much better serve yourself to just notice that doubt and then choose to release the doubt and direct your thoughts elsewhere. (Anywhere else, actually.) Just surrender the doubt to the Universe/Formless/God/Infinite Intelligence/Whatever Name You Choose. If you don't know how to do that, just say it out loud or in your mind: I surrender this to Higher Intelligence (or Other Name). If that feels like just saying words to you, that's fine. Keep doing it. Acting "as if" actually makes changes in your mind and your actual brain and if you keep doing it, pretty soon you'll see that it's true. This (acting as if what is desired is already manifest) is what, here in the course, we call "Telling the truth in advance." Love & blessings, and, of course-- EXPECT Success! Rebecca |
