I am firmly convinced that age has nothing to do with it.

My oldest student was 90 and his favorite dances were jive and quickstep -- both very energetic dances!

My parents are 67 and they take acrobatic lifts class with us young-uns. He can lift her over his head. Also, they both look great! My husband's mother, by contrast, is almost 10 years younger and she's been acting like an elderly person for over a decade!

I'm 41 now and I truly don't feel much different than I did at 17. I recently helped with a show full of dancers from age 13 to 18. It was a very energetic, challenging bunch of choreography, but there was nothing in that show that I couldn't do better than any of the kids.

I know a dancer, about a year younger than I am, who is constantly using his age as an excuse. When I point out that I'm older than he is and I don't have a problem, he comes up with some other excuse. Yeah, right.

I mean, if people want to be elderly, that's their choice. But why would you choose that on purpose when health and energy are just as accessible?
