Is being old or starting late reason to fail?
A funny title but lots of people seem to use these two reasons, as explanations, or excuses, why they give up. Whenever you start, the process is the same. There will always be the grey area between starting and arriving. It is very easy to not even start, because if you are copying someone or trying to do something that is already established you never appreciate, the time and effort required to get to where that person is and we feel that the destination is impossible. What we tend to do, because we feel we have to make up ground, is try and rush the process and of course it will never work, we are not letting the idea grow naturally. There is an old saying, “the ladder of success is never crowded at the top” That is because it only accommodates people that have allowed their ideas to grow naturally. When we get older the problem seems to get worse, not only have we started late, but we also feel that we are running out of time. So my advice to anyone thinking of starting a new venture or business, is to make sure that you allow your idea to grow naturally. Give yourself time and do not put any undue pressure on yourself to make things happen quickly by ignoring the grey area. If you do try and force something, it tends not to have the stability of something that has grown naturally. A plant that is over fertilised will either grow too big to support itself, or the fertilizer will kill it. Most people always get into competition mode and they start judging their results against other companies or people that are already established. This is not a clever thing to do because it makes you feel that you are lagging behind and you go into the unnatural growth mode. If you have an idea or intend to start a business, make sure that you are prepared to accept the grey area, where it appears nothing is happening, that is always going to be there. As long as you keep heading towards your target, you will eventually arrive and providing you do not compete or get put off by others success, you will eventually arrive. Abundance to All Croz |

This is so, so true, and really ties into what A-H say about the "art of allowing". Trying to force things means that one is in "fear mode", which prior to SOGR is all I ever knew. In fact, fear mode is all that most people know. Here, we learn how to let go of the fear (and fear indicates that the conscious and subconscious minds are conflicted) by reprogramming our subconscious minds, get peaceful and happy (which means that the conscious and subconscious are in agreement) and allow the subconscious create our dreams for us. For me, the whole key is to pay very very close attention to my body and my emotions, and if I am at all tense or fearful, I do EFT and get right with whatever the situation is. Otherwise, the fear/resistance wins out every time, and the prosperity and abundance is kept out. My subconscious and conscious mind MUST be in harmony ("harMONEY" Thanks for this great post Croz! Question by Croz.
An interesting question; short answer from my perspective; NO When I turned 30 I thought that I was over the hill - and had a lot of people that encouraged that belief. Since then I found that beyond each hill was another hill. Another challenge, another opportunity! I didn't begin college until the age of 28; after spending 8 years in the Marine Corps and 2 years managing a Pizza Parlor. I then had a carreer as an Accountant with some time off selling Real Estate and Macrame. My wife and I began our printing business when I was 54. That was a success and we sold it when I was 67. After 2 years of preperation which included many hours at the gym, studying for and recieving 4 certifications cumulating in a certification as a Master Personal Trainer I am beginning another career at the age of 69. As I continue to update and refine my CMI's who knows what I'll be when I grow up! Be good to yourself, live life passionately and always, always expect success!! Is the concept of just getting rid of fear and felling happy a new concept on this forum? All of the time here on this forum I have missed that concept? I only really started realizing, maybe in the last couple of months, that if you do nothing else but make yourself feel happy that is over half the battle?
I am sure people have been telling me that over and over but I guess I was not ready to listen. Maybe now I am ready. |

The "feel good" idea isn't new at all, CaptJack. It's the real key to SOGR, actually, because the whole of point of having, doing, or being ANYTHING is feeling good. It's just that we generally have the process bass-ackward (as my great-grandma would have said). Maybe it'll help if you can let go of thinking of any of this as a "battle."

I first discovered SOGR when I was 45 and started this SOGR NETwork site when I was 47. Now I'm 57 and I've just moved aboard a sweet little sailboat for a NEW adventure. As far as I'm concerned, it's never too late for anything unless you decide that it is.

Everytime Rebecca mentions her boat, I get kinda giddy. So today, I rented a houseboat for a mini vacation down on the Chesapeake this summer. I am not telling my family. It is a surprise. Its close. Its cheap. And now I am giddy for me too
Please excuse the interuption.... |

Tom you are a great inspiration to me - starting such a physical pursuit as a business over 50. And, I know someone else has said it, but you have the perfect name too.
I can't see any age restrictions in SOGR, so why should we even think that way? cheers Pauline |

It is funny about the perception of age.
I remember my parents being seriously old at 60, and Now I have passed that I can tell you that I feel very young. I think it was expected of people to grow old in the past, but us baby boomers have changed all that. Look out world, you ain't seen nothing yet. Just think of Tom Jones still singing at 70 and doing a great job I might add. Tom Keep the flag flying lol Abundance to All Croz |

I'm in my mid-40's and it's an every day occurrence to hear peers say things like, "Well, I'm getting older. I can't do things like I used to" or, "I've got to accept that my body is getting older. I need more sleep and don't have the energy I used to."
A former co-worker in her 50's makes regular comments on how it "sucks to be old" then starts into a rant on how terrible life is. (I stopped spending time with her almost 2 years ago.) I'm in agreement on the knowing that physical age is practically an irrelevent factor in the enjoyment of and true living of life. I feel more "girlish" and childlike every day because I'm always discovering something new. I set targets (follow a bucket list) and do what is necessary to meet those targets. When I was nearing 40, I had always wanted to be a dancer so, I signed up for dance lessons (jazz and hip hop) and agreed to perform in a recital at the end of the season. It was one of the most fun (and scary) projects I'd ever taken on because I had to perform in front of a few hundred people. Since then I've done many other things just for the sheer pleasure of it - paying little attention to what others think or whether or not I might fail. It saddens me at times that some still choose to remain uneducated, uninspired and not take control of their lives. However, in the grand scheme of things, I also understand that we're all at different stages of development, so what we can do is be grateful that we are we are and excited because we know those who aren't there yet, will one day be able to experience the same hope, belief and playfulness we do. |

It's definitely never to late to start. I've written about my aunt on here in the past.
She was in her 50's when she decided to go back to medical school. She experienced many obstacles. She is now in her 60's and nearing her completion. She's actually going to realize her dream of becoming a doctor. Appreciation from the heart, Richard De Haven |

I am certainly planning on that being not true. I am 60, and after much success from SOGR, I let myself slip out of it. Or, perhaps not. I've always wanted to move back to the Seattle area, so maybe allowing the bank to foreclose on my home of 22 years was a means to get that done. Perhaps the universe felt I wasn't pushing myself in the correct direction. So, being down to a few dollars, I sold a lot of stuff and moved. I managed to move all my opal cutting & jewelry making equipment and have restarted the effort to create my new business. Twice my cash resources have gotten under $30. But, last week I talked to a custom jewelry shop that would like to see my cut opals, as well as having about 20 pieces of jewelry made that I can take to other stores that might purchase them, or to sell them on my website. Also, I have nearly $2K in the bank and $500 in my pocket that I've gotten by other methods. I believe I've past the low point and things are beginning to open up for me now.
I've started walking & jogging again, and last night of the 3 miles I went, I managed to jog 1 mile of it. So, what does age or starting late have to do with it? Nothing as far as I can see... Best of Success!!! Verne -Practise gratitude at all times. |

Verne, congratulations! You are doing great and I applaud you for the courage to follow your heart and move to where you wanted to go, even if it meant starting "all over" with your business.
In quotes because of course you did not have to start at the bottom because you brought all your experience with you. And thank you for being an inspiration. I almost fell into the trap of worrying about a possible move in the near future. Now I see it as a possible opportunity. Thanks to your post.
