The Art Of Being Rich
What’s it take to be rich? It takes feeling rich. What’s it take to feel rich? If you think about being rich you can begin to feel rich. Try it, you’ll see for yourself. Think about being rich, having what you want, being able to do what you prefer, being able to experience wonderful experiences you’ve dreamed about. Now, notice I didn’t say thinking about WANTING to be rich. That’s a very different thought process and it causes a very different feeling. It’s not as uplifting or inspiring. Try it for yourself. Don’t take my word for it. Try thinking about wanting to be rich. Think, “I want to be rich.” It doesn’t feel as good as thinking about being rich, does it? Now, maybe you’re having trouble thinking of being rich. OK, let me try and steer you to it. Did you learn to ride a bike, or learning some other activity, purely for the pleasure of it? Do you recall the process you went through? First you got inspired to do the thing. Then you started imagining what it would be like. You imagined and you began to feel good, wonderful feelings about it. Then, with those wonderful feelings lingering inside of you, you took action. You got on a bike, or got help to get on a bike, and you went through the process, sometimes struggling, unsure maybe, but still with a certain amount of confidence that you could do this thing. And then, you GOT it, and you were riding a bike, and you were living (and re-living – just like you imagined it, even more so) the wonderful feelings of riding the bike. Now, you might be asking, “What’s riding a bike got to do with being rich, or getting any other good thing that I want?” It can all be just as much a wonderful process as was learning how to ride a bike, or cook a meal, or read a book, or sing a melody, or pitch a tent, make a friend, operate a computer, draw a picture, design a widget, take a trip, your first bus ride, your first sale, your first million, your first whatever. Think about being rich. Think about as many different aspects of being rich that you can. Think about being rich with wonderful relationships. Think about being rich having plenty of the material things you’ve want. Think about being rich in having developed certain skills you’ve wanted. Think about being rich in health and experiencing wonderful feelings of well being. Think about being rich in wisdom, rich in certain kinds of knowledge that allows you to do things and handle events or circumstances with greater calm, confidence and effectiveness. When you take the time to think of things in wonderful ways, or simply think about wonderful things, you are making yourself richer. You are creating associations within your mind, linking yourself to the experience of being rich. You are creating (if I may get technical here) neurological pathways of wealth in your brain. You are programming yourself to be richer, wealthier. You are attuning yourself to what it takes to be richer. Yes, the repeated acts of thinking of being rich helps you become richer. Feel what it’s like to have many kind, loving, wonderful, smart, encouraging, supportive, capable, precious, happy, uplifting and inspiring and trustworthy friends. Imagine being this kind of person yourself. Like attracts like. “Birds of a feather,…” Law of Attraction. Imagine being rich. FEEL the feelings of being rich. Keep it up and you’ll feed the seed of it, and you will be led, inspired. You’ll grow in richness, in well being, in good feelings. You’ll feel calmer and more certain of good things to come. You’ll BE richer in being, and you’ll attract richer conditions, outcomes and experiences. “Enter at once into the full enjoyment of the things you want.” - Wallace Wattles Phil "The Universe is responding to how we feel." Hi Phil,
great post! You expressed it really on the spot. I like your bike-riding analogy and I am realizing more and more the joy of the process. What fun! Thank you and many blessings to you! With love Iris |

Hi Phil! By definition in the material plane, and in my own opinion according to all of the descriptions of wealth that you described, I am already rich and have been so for quite some time. However, recently, in discussions with my wife, i was able to determine the reason that she so adamantly insists on trying to change my life (which of course, directly affects her own). Sparing you the conversation, it all boils down to three million dollars. Put simply, if i give her three million dollars, she will stop pestering me in my affairs. If you knew my wife, you would realize that this is a bargain. So now its simply a matter of figuring out how to receive this. And for this I can easily picture a courier bringing me a single three million dollar check at my front door. I can clearly picture, the two commas and the the six zeros trailing the 3 in the little box on the right side of the check. I can see the words "Pay to the order of" followed by my name. The only difficult part of this picture so far has been figuring out WHO SIGNS the check. Until I can get that into the picture, I'm going to end up with a piece of worthless paper, and that will NOT get my wife off my back of course. I have been getting the impression that it should be from the Feds in one of those nice colorful checks that come to people at tax time. This gives me only a very little, but albeit true, bit of "fear". The problem with that picture is that if it is a mistake on their part, i do NOT want to have anything to do with it, get the picture? Talk me through this and let's see where this goes, what do you think? |

Hi Isaidso,
I am not Phil, but two things came to my mind spontaneously while reading your post. First, why would you want to be the source of money for your wife? Why not inspire her, for example by giving her SOGR to read, to find access to her own (inner) source? Second, I think you are focusing very much on the HOW money should come to you. But this is not your job, this is the job of the universe. Don't limit the universe to the HOW. For example: - you are imagining a check -> money can come to you in many different ways, a check is only one way - you are imagining the amount at a single blow -> it could come from different sources - you even want to know who gives you the money -> well, I think by now you know what I mean Try concentrating on the feeling instead and let the universe take care of the rest! With love & blessings Iris |

Hi Iris!
That would seem to be the most efficient and natural way at first, and it occurred to me as well without even much fore-thought, but due to the effect some call "hardening of the heart" and that is being discussed in the other thread, "Opposites Attract", currently, at least, that is not an option.
This is a very good point you raise, but actually, I am being more specific than "how" and working on visualizing exactly what it is that I want. SOGR is rather new to me, however, I have used the Law of Attraction in my life for the past thirty-three years. In all of that time it has always worked for me, but most especially when the image in mind is crystal clear. I could literally give you thousands of examples. I don't see any reason why a 3 million dollar check is any more or less difficult to attract from the universe than anything else. You are under the impression, though, that it is money. I am under the impression that it is paper. I don't intend to get anything in return from my wife, after all. In fact, I intend to do exactly the opposite and get LESS from her. |

Isaidso, You wrote: “Talk me through this and let's see where this goes, what do you think?” Well, I think I know what you’re asking. You’re asking me to talk you through the process from YOUR point of view, with your very NARROW IDEA of how the money will come to you. I agree with Iris. She said, “I think you are focusing very much on the HOW money should come to you. But this is not your job, this is the job of the universe. Don't limit the universe to the HOW.” You also wrote: “By definition in the material plane, and in my own opinion according to all of the descriptions of wealth that you described, I am already rich and have been so for quite some time. ” If you are, then you are already “rich in wisdom, rich in certain kinds of knowledge that allows you to do things and handle events or circumstances with greater calm, confidence and effectiveness” and if you already are “rich with wonderful relationships” then you don’t really have any complaint about your wife. And if you already have “plenty of the material things you’ve wanted” you also already have plenty of money. You said you’re rich in all the ways I described, so that means you’re also “rich in having developed certain skills you’ve wanted.” Well, money-getting is a skill, isn’t it? And you certainly seem to want this skill. It seems to me you are not as rich as you say you are. If you were, it seems to me you could easily make the millions you want simply by marketing your rich wisdom and skills, helping others attain their dreams, or in some other way giving people what they want. I know of a fellow who does that, and he makes over $100K a week. Some rock stars and star athletes and certain writers and business persons routinely do this and even more. Look, I'm not as rich as I'd like to be either. But, it seems to me, if you think you are already as rich as you want to be, you risk cutting yourself from greater knowledge. For example, there's a story of an apprentice monk who goes to visit a master, to learn. As the two sit together, the master pours tea. As he fills the apprentices cup, he keeps pouring the tea and it overflows the cup and spills out, and he keeps pouring. The apprentice is startled and gushes, "Master, the cup is full. Stop pouring!!" The master says something to the effect, "You are like the filled cup. You come to learn, but you are so full that you cannot take in anything new." The point of my post was to emphasize a certain aspect of the SOGR by Wattles. Specifically, the FEELING aspect of getting rich. The aspect of BE-ing rich, as opposed to just WANTING riches. It seems t me this is a very important, often overlooked distinction. Regarding manifesting the things we want he said, “In the mental realm, enter at once into the full enjoyment of the things you want.” “See the things you want as if they were actually around you all the time; see yourself as owning and using them. Make use of them in imagination just as you will use them when they are your tangible possessions.” So, if I understand you correctly, you are to think of having this 3 million and joyfully handing it over to your wife. You are to get into “the full enjoyment” of this experience. Then allow this 'image' to sink into your subconscious. As your subconscious accepts it, you may get an idea to do this or that. You may get a hunch to do something, go somewhere, notice something, etc., and so on and so on, until you finally have your experience of handing over 3 million to your wife. I have my reservations about why you want this 3 million, but I’ll refrain from saying much on it at this point. I suppose it’s your choice to want whatever you want. Hmmm, actually, it is quite the opposite. Asking for your point of view is not the same thing ask asking for my own point of view. I already know how the check will come to me. I will receive it at my front door. My wife will be in the room. I will hand it to her and be happy.
My focus is actually on the object of my desire. The check itself, its color, its texture, the impressions of ink printed on it.
True. There is no complaint about my wife from me. There is a complaint about me from my wife. She wants to dictate how i am to lead my life, with whom, and likewise interfere with my affairs. Her perception of wealth is different than my perception. Her perception of wealth is money-centric. She believes that money will solve whatever problems that she cannot even define for herself into the future which she cannot even foretell.
That is untrue. I have many material things all around me that are "mine". My house, my books, my computers, my coffee cup, etc. I have some gold for a rainy day, and some stocks invested as well. These are all material objects which over time have accumulated. I have so many things that I cannot even put a lot of them to use and they are stored in the attic.
I have numerous skills in regards to "money-getting". Some of them require more work than others and some of them require more time than others. The efficiency of "money-getting" is discussed in SOGR. However, although I have been familiar with the Law of Attraction for a good many years, I have never employed that Law for financial gain directly. It has never been necessary for me to do so in the past that I can recall.
Yes, I can do that. What is interesting to me is computer programming, learning new languages. Creating a product is exactly what I am working on in the programming field. But I am my own boss in that arena and those are exactly the sort of affairs which are producing results at a pace which induces my wife to meddle in the first place. Her meddling only serves to slow the production of my product. And also, I love what I do. Programming for me is quite enjoyable. It's fun. It's challenging. It is an ever expanding field of learning. This is what led the two of us to our discussion. I asked her what she wanted. At first she told me one thing, but it was untrue. I analyzed her answer for her, then asked her again. I did this repeatedly until I had come to exactly what it was that she wanted. 3 million dollars. I tested this result by soliciting her feedback once again. I asked her, "So, if I were to hand you a check for 3 million dollars, you would leave me alone in my affairs?" To this she finally responded, "yes".
Exactly. And this is not a very difficult thing to do. Believe me, please, it would be a HUGE RELIEF to me to give her this check. I don't care what she does with it but she will no longer be able to interrupt me in my work.
The money itself doesn't really interest me. My work is on a "human race" scale. I think it is interesting that SOGR came about in the first place. As i have explained, honestly, i want a check for three million dollars to arrive at my front door, my wife to be there in the room so I can hand it to her. It would be the resolution and completion of our earlier conversation and she would then be unable to justify interrupting me in my work. Call me a workaholic if you want, but I love my work. |

What is she wanting the $3 million for? I guess some people might like to hae a huge pile of cash to stare at but I suspect that, more likey, she wants to exchange it for other things (house, car, travel, clothes, etc.).
If that's the case, you might want to change your focus from a $3 million check and, instead, what the money would go for. Just like you pictured the salad. Read the article on "That, not this" and cut out the middle man. http://www.scienceofgettingrich.net/article-14.html. That way you won't have to wrry about who signs the check because some of the things may not come in the form of money. |

I hadn't bothered to ask her, so I just took a moment to do so. First she asked me if I had it yet. I told her to focus back on the question I had asked her (your question). Then she began to start telling me what she would not spend it on, so I again got her focus back in line. Finally she began with "New House","New Car". And I asked her... "3 million for a new house and car?" It then occurred to me that these are not extravagant prices for such things these days, but I didn't go there. She replied, "250K for the house". She didn't expand on the car. I asked her what would you do with the rest? She replied, "Oh, you know, furniture for the house, and invest in things but not the stock market". About the cutting out the middle man, actually, I think that i myself am the middle man here, sort of. It occurs to me that regardless of whether she is "satisfied" with this money, she will not be able to interfere with my work any further. The lesson here for her is that money will not answer her desires. Perhaps I am incorrect about this, though, only the future will tell. You see, she has never had the opportunity in her life before coming to this country to have these sorts of things. In her country, they do not exist, or rather, presently, they are only now beginning to exist. To me, however, it doesn't really matter what amount it is. During our conversation just now, when asking about "what about the rest?" She replied, "well if you have five million, then that would be okay too". I redirected our conversation there, though, because i know that it is important to BE SPECIFIC about the thought of creation. The creation of a check made of that govt-check paper with the rainbow colors, the ink, the numbers imprinted, my name on the correct line, the line itself with the words in fancy scroll on the left saying "Pay to the order of", as well as the line below with the textured printing in words spelled out reading "Three Million Dollars and 00 CTS", as well as the box on the right with the numeral form including the two commas, one period, and eight zeros, all over the background of the Statue of Liberty on the left and the fancy signatures on the bottom above the bank routing ABA number and account routing numbers. Yes, even the rounded corners, I had almost forgotten. So, that is my clear picture of the object for the universe to manifest and I have every reason to believe that it will arrive at my door so that I can hand it to my wife and get back to work. From what I understand about the process, this should not be a difficult item for the universe to manifest. Certainly it has manifested millions upon millions of these items in the past so the machinery is already geared up for such things. After all, its only paper and ink. It would certainly be easier to create such an item than to create a new house (and i think that the word "new" here actually means "different" to her), and a new car. True? In any case, I am not interested in either a new house or a new car. If she buys a new house, she can use her car to drive to it from here. I am quite happy with the house and car that we already have. She will have her money, and I will be able to get back to work. About the "who signs the check" and worrying about it: This was actually the most work required in figuring out exactly what it was that I wanted. You see, already being familiar with the Law of Attraction, i am very aware that the reality/image-quality is the most exacting work of the process as a science. The largest obstacle for beginners is to figure out exactly what they want without negating it as well. And for a little bit more about this "how it will come", I must say that it is of no interest to me whatsoever the Govt's reasons behind the delivery of this object to me. I haven't the faintest clue as a matter of fact. The U.S. dollar being the reserve currency of the entire world,... well, it seems to be general enough to say that I am not being too narrow in "how" it comes about. What do you think? According to SOGR: "THOUGHT IS THE ONLY POWER WHICH CAN PRODUCE TANGIBLE RICHES from the formless substance", and I happen to agree. In this specific case, the "riches" are "happiness that my wife is happy". Facts are that if it were a pleasant idea to me that a new house and car along with the debt they incur were a good idea, we all know that it doesn't take any money whatsoever to acquire either item. |

I am really hoping someone else will come along and perhaps say this in a positive way as I really am not trying to be hurtful. But what I see as your true desire, is not the $3 million but that you want your wife to go away. You have stated that using different words in all of your posts in this thread.
"get my wife off my back" "I intend to do exactly the opposite and get LESS from her" "I don't care what she does with it but she will no longer be able to interrupt me in my work" "Her meddling only serves to slow the production of my product" "she will not be able to interfere with my work any further." That is what the Universe (or whatever you prefer to call it) is hearing. If you this is your true desire, it can manifest itself in some very negative ways. The $3 million is only a HOW in this situation. |

What you have said here is only helpful. In fact, it is something that I was beginning to recognize as we have been discussing this. You pointed out several examples, more than i was aware of, which indicate this correctly even by my own analysis of my words. Can you see how talking this through with other people can help a person figure things out with new perspectives? I appreciate your "treading lightly", but you can feel free to get serious with me at your leisure. I have been on the Earth long enough to have already experienced some of the most trying physical and mental pains. I expect only honesty and sincerity to result from honest and sincere discussion on this issue. I am also bendable, pliable, moldable, and intelligent enough to adapt to my environment as well as to adapt my environment to me. Put simply, i perceive your input as only helpful and doubt that a kind soul such as yourself intends anything but quality support on the matter. Okay, so, starting from that point, and using the SOGR as a science, it would be best for me to figure out correctly what it is that i want. Correct? I'll restate it like this and keep in mind that it is also moldable and pliable. I want to work on my project. I want my wife to be happy. Those are my goals. But neither of these goals has anything material involved that i don't already have. I'm already married, and I already have my project. What deters the project's completion is the impatience of my wife. Is this a case of have cake and eat cake? I am already my own employer. I work very hard each day and fully expect that eventually that work will be compensated financially. My wife is impatient and wants more than I currently provide. That impatience causes her to be unhappy and therefore detracts from goal number 2. Looking at those again, real close, they could actually be written: I want to work on my project so that my wife is happy. Because that would make me happy it could be written as: I want to work on my project so that my wife and myself are happy. So then I re-read SOGR... and I am wondering then again... Which is it to be? My happiness, her happiness, or both of us being happy? My goal is "eventual" and ends up with both of us happy. Her impatience, however, defeats all three goals (the partial goals as well as both in combination). Logically speaking, whatever my goal should be, it should solve this impatience which suggests immediacy on its part. Finding out exactly what it was which would appease her was the task to satisfy that dictum. She wants 3 million dollars to satisfy the impatience. I could abandon my project, stop being my own boss, go get a job working for somebody else, earn XYZ dollars every payday and be completely unhappy. This is not a solution and would completely defeat any reason to have picked up and read SOGR in the first place. I'll stop here at this point in deliberation to hear your input. I really appreciate you taking the time to help talk someone through this process. We all have different wants and needs, thankfully we also all have different perspectives. |

Hello isaidso, the quote below of yours sounds far more positive than previous lines you have said. You could then perhaps add the linesomething like " $3,000,000 that would make us both happy "
Try visualizing you both being happy as you get on with your project and your wife gets on with her project of spending the money Phil thanks for the post. I always feel one step nearer to my goals when I read your heart warming posts. Love and success to all Gwen |

Thanks for the help Gwen, sincerely, it is appreciated. However, after much consideration and the wise input from others on this topic, I have decided to buckle, go out and find a job somewhere, and abandon my project. At least at this point, that is the predominant "calling" to action. I have also decided to do what I can to increase her opportunities to make money for herself. This will hopefully, someday, allow me some more room to work toward my own desires. The project simply cannot satisfy income in a time requirement small enough for her satisfaction. That being said, I am now wondering if there is anything that SOGR can do for me. My new desire is simply "a job". And from the old list of two, it has been whittled down to only one. "I want my wife to be happy". My desires to be my own boss as an expert in my field must be shelved until a time when my wife can get a grip on such potential. Imagining being rich causes her problems. She prefers security more than riches. She wants a guarantee.

Hi Isaidso Just wanted to add please don't consider it as buckling and abandoning, but perhaps pursuing a different path for a while so that you can come back to this path more prepared and with the resources to keep you and your wife happy. I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and if you don't get what you want it's because something better is coming. You never know what will happen in your next 'job' which could take you forward in your project. Stay open to the miraculous. Love Donna.x |

Hi Donna! Well certain things in life are very black and white. For a quick example, consider a life guard who swims half way out to save some bloke being eaten by sharks out on the reef. The undercurrents are so strong that his best friend quickly grabs a rope and they tie it around his ankle. Halfway out the rope is too short and his friend refuses to let go of the rope. Seeing the situation is hopeless is actually better to do in this case. When it's a certain outcome it's always best to realize the truth and accept the fate as soon as possible. The nagging regrets will only poison the soul, so it's better to forgive and forget and move on. Per the scope and nature of my project there is only a certainty that any similar work would be required to be started again from scratch. Since it is my decision, it is also my responsibility to take the blame for my actions, realize their weight, chalk it up to fate, forget about it and move on. Accepting the pain of making the incorrect decision to start such a large project initially is exactly what will help me remember to scale anything similar down to the limitations of time imposed by my wife in the future. In other words, put simply, live and learn, we all make mistakes, so live light and leave the baggage behind. Does that help you to see the reason? |

Very true what you say.
I can only contribute to this by saying I have seen how this works in my own life. The expression 'want something so badly that you can taste it' I think is the key to triggering the attraction that is out there for us. That 'taste it' is the 'feel it' part of the desire. When we concentrate on 'feeling it' and incorporating this into our lifestyle, things begin to happen. The Universe starts that process of moving things towards you. For me, the 'wanting something so badly that it aches' triggered a physical reaction, but there was still just the 'want' part of it. Not so good. A bit bittersweet. Moving to a more positive mindset of 'feeling it' triggered also physical reactions - and felt much better. And I truly believe that this 'feeling it' is what helped me achieve the small list of goals I had. I did not realize at the time that I was applying a science, as Wally likes to call it. Finding this website and Wally's book has shown me how to fine tune it. The problem with my 'feeling it' was I wasn't clear with when I wanted things to materialize. Some things took a few years. However, along with my 'feeling it' and 'knowing' I will achieve my desires, was unfortunetly the 'one day' goal - which I think is a non-goal. And I think that is why it took so many years for some goals. I have learned since that one must be more specific. Funny (or not), the things I set to a time frame with (by the time I am 30, by the time I am 40, by the time I am 50 etc...) ALL happened by those dates or slightly before - slightly after but in my mind all within the desired time frame. Along the way I also learned to drop some of my misconceptions about 'rich people' and why I had them in the first place. But an important key to the feeling part, is whenever possible, I put myself physically in places where the wealthy go - for lunch, for tea or coffee time (something typical in Europe), for dinner...to the theater, buying a ticket for the 'good seats' and not the economical ones. Visiting events ...etc. etc. You have to do this with the mindset that you belong there, that it is natural - not like the tourist with cameras around the neck and gaudy inappropriate clothes, gawking at the chandeliers. You know what I mean. Not to MEET someone, but to feel and be part of it. Like I was born into it. I afforded myself these little luxuries (very attainable little hobby) as a way of pampering me and placing myself where I felt was mine anyway. That is all part of the 'feeling it'. In retrospect, I think I did this in a much smaller way when I was a young girl...saving my money up taking myself to lunch where I wanted and where there were adults - places a little beyond - but not so much so beyond my social reach. Also, my fervent desire to return to my country of birth and early childhood was also achieved before I was in my mid 20's when I returned...though this separated me by a continent from my 'family'. I did not care - I was where I wanted to be. Back in Germany. My reality today is far removed from my childhood. But I want to further improve on that. I think money is energy that needs to keep moving and circulating so it can grow. I want the excitement of creating that again rather than relying only on what I have - as I am the 'financial backer' of my family and have new goals in mind. |

More On The FEELING Aspect,...
Some of you may know of Mark Victor Hansen. He is co-author, with Jack Canfield, to the Chicken Soup For The Soul series of books (that have now sold over 85 MILLION copies). Mark seems to know a little about how to succeed, don’t you think? Mark once said of spiritual/metaphysical teacher Neville Goddard, “He is my idol.” Neville apparently thoroughly understood the significance of FEELING whatever it is you may want. On the subject this he wrote: “,… take some section of your life that seems beyond redemption and rearrange it in your mind's eye. Make it as you would like it to be. Persuade yourself of its truth and wait, because its fulfillment has its own appointed hour. It ripens, it will flower. If it be long, then wait, for it is sure and it will not be late. It will come into your objective world to bear witness to the reality of your assumption.” – Neville "First, have a dream, and by a dream I mean a day dream, a glorious, wonderful day dream. Then ask yourself, 'What would it be like if it were true that I am now the man I am dreaming I would like to be. What would it be like?' Then catch the mood of the wish fulfilled and drench yourself with that feeling. Then for all your tomorrows try to the best of your ability to walk faithful to that assumption, and I am telling you from my own experience, in a way that no one knows, it will come and it will come suddenly." - From "Immortal Man" by Neville. “After you have assumed the feeling of the wish fulfilled, do not close the experience as you would a book, but carry it around like a fragrant odor.” Neville, from Awakened Imagination, p. 76. Understand this FEELING ASPECT of having whatever it is you want. Apply it. Know that you CAN feel what it feels like, to already have whatever it is you want. And when you do so you align yourself to it in such a way as to make the attainment most harmonious, even effortless. When it comes to how they feel, most people are at the mercy of their physical senses. They feel only what their eyes can see and their ears can hear, or their hands can touch, etc. If they don’t like what they see or hear, etc., their moods MUST reflect their dislike. But a person can learn to IMAGINE ideal circumstances, experiences and conditions. And, by doing so, one can come to feel what it is like to have them. And doing this, repeatedly, over time, creates within a person a ‘field of energy’ that works to attract such conditions and experiences. Ask yourself: How would you feel, if you knew that everything was working out wonderfully? You’d feel wonderful. And if you were to repeatedly and consistently practice feeling wonderful, what do you think you just might attract into your life, into your finances, your relationships, your well being, your circumstances and experiences?
