How do I tell others about SOGR?
I have a happy life and plenty of money. (Mind you things did improve dramatically after the SOGR sought me out a year ago - quite an amazing story itself). But now I find people asking me “how I did it” and have realized that they just don’t accept what I’m telling them. I’ll give you two examples: I made my money in software and I have a friend who is in the same business. This friend struggles with life and money yet does all the right things from a business sense - he works hard, networks well and provides value. Yet it’s like he has a “kick me” sign pinned to his back. Recently he asked me for advice and I told him that much of my success and peace of mind (he’s really amazed at my peace of mind!) comes from how I think. He wanted to know more so I directed him to Rebecca’s web site. My friend is normally a prolific email writer but since that last exchange – nothing. Weird. Another time a girl in my Toastmasters club, who is definitely going places in life, chose me as a mentor and has been “drilling” for information. In one email exchange I slipped the SOGR in as an attachment and waited to see what would happen. Nothing. She has never mentioned it. Even stranger, she is much more distant these days. Weird. So how do I tell people about the SOGR without becoming, well … weird? |

All sorts of things came to mind as I read this thread.
"The teacher will appear when the student is ready" "You'll see it when you believe it" (the title of a book by Dr Wayne Dyer) Why is it that we want to "tell" others? Why is it that we want others to "do as we do"? Why is it that we want to "fix" them and their problem ... we have no right and besides we each have a responsability for ourselves first and foremost. As a coach and mentor I say to my cliens at our first mmeting .... "I will give you all sorts of books, reading, articles, concepts, systems and models. These are my gifts to you. Like any gift you can do with them what you will ... use them, give them away or throw them in the trash. Don't feel bad about this, I won't be offended. They aren't mine anymore, they're yours to do with as you see fit." From that point onward they receive all sorts of ideas and information outside of our formal time together. Sometimes I send things to them to raise their ire, to get them offside, to provoke and torment them, to make them think. I do this with SOGR as well. On my web site I've got the following .... " Do you need a coach? Of course not. You can go through your whole life and never work with a professional coach and I'm sure you'll do just fine. Just as some people would prefer never to touch a computer and have little interest in the Internet, some people just don't get/relate to the concept of coaching. And that's cool." THe same applies to SOGR. Remember the teacher appeared when you were ready ... may be they aren't ready. The important thing is not to be disappointed that they aren't like you (imagine if we all were Just ensure that in giving them the key to the door you don't put them offisde in your enthusiasm to "fix their problem" ... only they can do that --------------------------- "Our life is what we allow our thoughts to make it." Thoughts become things... choose the good ones! |

If you’re already rich you probably could influence people into adapting their thinking (even if you’re not just adopt an influential mindset), don't say things like you changed your thinking you need to mask it into something more socially accepted like...
"I decided to stop worrying and the money seemed to just flow to me" Or "When I realized all the good things I had in my life, I found making money was easy" People refuse to believe statements that they don't understand. |

There have been many great posts, and one (by Amy) mentioning about the fact that people belief is the last thing they will let go.
In this “optic”, a thing that may be “scaring away” some folks that would benefit from SOGR, is that our society as “ingrained a belief” that you have to “work hard”, or in another way, DO a lot, and thinking is only good for “artist and writers”! (Although, the reverse can be just as wrong… Too much thinking and no action, which up till now, as been my personal challenge). So when something like SOGR, that start talking right away that we simply need to change our THINKING, it goes against that ingrained belief and “scare away” the “materialist/realist” people. To accept SOGR need a “twist” in thinking, a change in some of the “normal” belief system that as been passed down, and for many this can be scary! As Leslie also mentioned, SOGR is really an “inside work” and too many people look at life from the outside, and do not want to believe that anything going on around them, is based on their INSIDE PERCEPTION of Life. So when they get told that to be happy, and joyous and rich, they have to look inside, they can not “get it” because they still want to look at YOU as their source, and not at THEM. Many of the spiritual and “self-improvement” text I have look at, read and re-read, all points that basically things can only improve if WE change our THINKING. Phil even went to say quote: And to me, this again seems to be a very “trendy fashion” that points again that many people will attach more importance about what comes from OTHERS, from their OUTSIDE, instead of looking inside themselves for the “answer”, the Truth. But again, you may charge all you want, unless they decide to accept and change their belief, nothing will work. And even then, and I have been guilty of this up till now, sometimes it will take a LOT to get them “going”, they will still wonder and keep looking for the “better system” that will make their life go as they want, and keep going in circle, even when the majority of the texts (financial, spiritual, psychological/Self-Improvement), or whatever authors they read (God/Jesus, Dr. Phil, Robert Kyosaki, Napoleon Hill, Anthony Robbins, Angel and Guides communications, just to name a few of my own readings A certain “WE” do not want to change and may at times makes “us” forget that all the Joy, Happiness and Successes are right inside of us, at all time, at each and every moment and we simply should “open our Heart” instead of our Brain! Too finish an already longer post then I intended So keep on telling what you DO to be Rich when asked. Continue being an example by being Rightly Rich and having an Abundance of Peace of mind, and if they truly want to change, they’ll believe what you do and start doing it themselves. Keep on being weird! But more so, keep on doing what brings YOU happiness, Abundance, Richness and be an example, be a Light. Thank you all for your patience in reading this, but for me, it is a way to make thing even clearer to my own self at times, or to remind me of what I need to DO Hugs, Light, Blessings and Abundance to all! |

Selling vs. Pre-selling
No one likes to be sold. But we all like to buy, thinking that WE made the choice - the wise decision. When I tell someone about my 'latest discovery' I can almost feel them straining to get away from me. (sort of like approaching your family and friends with yet another MLM) However, if you forward an article related to a discussion of mutual interest (in the form of FYI), and that article has several links to choose from (one of them can include SOGR), then your family or friend gets to make his/her own discovery. There are lots of things I want to correct about the thinking and behavior of my students, and particularly their parents. Of course, I could come right out and blast them! Buh-bye business! Instead, as mentioned above, I create articles illustrating the points I want to make using 'fictional characters' and 'hypothetical situations' (you know the type... only the names have been changed to protect the identities Below each article, I include links to at least three books and/or websites relevant to the topic so it doesn't look like I have any particular bias. Result: I come across as a knowledgable and trusted expert in my field. My audience gets to make their own choices and discoveries. More often than not, ONE of my referral links makes a sale! All non-threatening and no loss of family or friends. In fact, just the opposite. Because of this approach, you may get more referrals! Try this for yourself. Give MORE VALUE first, and watch the people flock to you like moths to a flame! Coat,
Regarding the poor responses you’ve gotten when you try to tell people about SOGR, I think you will find a lot that resonates with you if you read the ‘Baseball’s Metaphysician’ article linked in that thread. This ball player went on the win the Cy Young award in pro baseball. This is supposedly baseball’s highest award for pitchers. He credits metaphysics for this. He credits metaphysics for taking him from being one of the worst pitchers in the league to being the best. Yet, he says that when he tries to tell his baseball buddies about this he gets a lot of flack. Go and read the article. If you don’t like it I’ll eat a bug. By the way, you said you have a happy life and plenty of money. Maybe the thing you should do is CHARGE people for what you know (re: SOGR). For whatever odd reason, it seems some people only value what they can pay money for. Phil |

I think there are a number of factors here you might consider. First, ask yourself why you "want" to tell others about SOGR. I'm sure it's like anything else good that we find--we want to share it with others. As your examples indicate, people don't really want to know about themselves. SOGR requires a willingness and desire to look closely at ourselves. Most people want some type of answer that is outside of themselves. All of us are here practicing SOGR because of a thought we had. This truly is some heavy duty life altering material. Unfortunately, many of our associates, friends and family are just not ready for it. It's really not all that different from religion. I respect others beliefs and I hope they do the same for me. However, I won't ever be found going around trying to convert others to my belief system. I don't do it because I would not like someone doing it to me. Second, perhaps a little reverse psychology might work if someone insists you share your success secret. What I'm thinking here is a method that often works in other situations. Preface giving the information to someone with a statement such as "I'd really love to share my secret with you, but I'm concerned that doing so might have an adverse affect on our relationship." Actually, having said that, I realize now that in sharing SOGR with your two examples, you may have discovered something quite valuable about them. There is a reason for their reaction (distancing). It may be that these people have fulfilled their usefulness in your life and it is for the best to move on. Well, I've gone on quite enough. Bottom line--SOGR reaches beyond monetary riches into all aspects of our lives. This new way of thinking will have positive effects on everything we do. I truly believe, despite outer appearances, that your experience in attempting to share SOGR IS a positive one. It has been said that you can't change other people. This is really not true. In changing ourselves we can changes others (really it's them changing as a response to our changing but it is change). Keep up the good work and try to let go of anything that is not in harmony with your purpose.

All we can do is to be examples. Learning to give the impression of increase. As it says in the chapter on Using The Will....we don't have the right to force our will power on others, "even for their own good."
The statement (paraphrased) "an ounce of action is worth more than a pound of theorizing" would seem to apply here. When the student is ready, the teacher appears. Much abundance to all, Tom Much abundance to all, TOM Interested in turning $25 into $75,000 or more? http://www.cheerofgiving.com |

I think they need to be quite desperate and find real obstacles in their lives, and find that whatever they do it will not work anylonger...then they will seek.
The most valuable in peoples lives is theirs beliefs, it is THE LAST thing in life they will sacrifie ever. Anyway we all have once began as an idea(or belief) in Gods MIND.... They must desire to change first this is out of pure desire that they will find this page on the web by themslves one day. The certain desire creates an certain outcome, remember... Amy |

Hi There,
I thought this only happened to me!! I have told various people about the s.o.g.r. site and on a couple of occasions printed out the book and given it to friends and to date I have heard nothing from them, any of them!!! I wonder what the reason is, maybe those people don't 'read' I always have my nose in anything I think might interest me so reading is something I enjoy and always have but there are a great many people who don't read so something that looks as though it might take time to read puts them off. That is why when Rebecca gave us the little printout of the summary I was delighted and I carry it around with me all the time. But would giving that to other people have the same effect as the whole book I don't know. Even me telling people how much I have achieved since reading the book does not seem to interest anyone. May be beause as yet I have not made any money I have only achieved steps on the way to making money and I have faith that I will in time, the right time, start to make money. But it would appear that most people need to see $$$ before they believe. Love and faith to all at S.O.G.R. people Hopscoth |
