Hi All,

I thought I'd share an experience that I had a few years ago that you may enjoy.

I was at Phillip Island (Victoria, Australia), snorkelling in some rock pools at low tide one summer’s day. I had been snorkelling for about half an hour in deeper water admiring fish and anything else that moved and then decided to go back to shore. On the way back, I found a very small rock pool that was very shallow, about a foot deep and because it was so small the water had been warmed up by the sun so I decided it would be a good spot to rest and enjoy the warmer water after being in colder water.

As I floated there I noticed that I could no longer feel my body, there was no gravity due to the water buoying my weight and the water temperature must have matched my body temperature as I could no longer feel anything, also my breathing had slowed so much that I couldn’t perceive my breath. The next thing I realised was that there was no sound, my head (and ears) were under water and the rock pool was motionless. I couldn’t smell anything in my mask and so the only perception I had left was that of sight, so I thought, if I close my eyes, I wonder what it will be like?

Well… the experience was profound, as soon as I closed my eyes, I became huge, it was an expansion that felt as though I was the universe, nothing existed and yet everything was blissful and perfect. I needed nothing and I was everything, there was no room for thought, it was unnecessary, it was simply joyful being.

Eventually I opened my eyes and came back to this reality and felt as though I’d had a spiritual enema, my heart felt huge and clear and there was a deep appreciation for all that is.

What I experienced was a temporary letting go of the body and mind and everything associated with it and what I was left with was consciousness. Nothing existed and nothing needed to, I was conscious and I was formless! I realised that this is my true nature and it was a glimpse of death, nothing scary, simply joy and peace.

Warmest Regards,
Angelo

Hi Studmuffin,

I don't know the definition of an "out of body" experience but if I had to put a name on what I experienced, I would call it a "no-body" experience.
Calling it "near death" was tongue in cheek.

Cheers,
Angelo

Hello all
This experience is known as "out of body" experience. No so much near death. In 1977 through a tragic accident I experienced near death I was gone out of my body and heard one lady touching my body for vital sign saying" this one is gone" I was floating above my body and was then taken to a magnificient place. When I returned I didn't want to be here and had no use for this world at all. I try to close my eyes and return to the magnificient place. To no avail. I was left with despair felling of sadness. The return to life was is not something that I want to experience again.
As for dying...we will all do it... No matter who we are. My experience was, dying is a process of moving ahead into a different life just like moving from one room to another no more difficult the that.
Today I am happy to be alive, a few years ago I wasn't.
Take care
BT

Thanks for the input guys,

Hey Jude,
Good point, I could call my experience an "insight of stroke", given that my ego didn't die!

Cheers,
Angelo

Hi Angelo,

Your experience is very similar to Dr. Jill Bolte-Taylor's experience while having a stroke, as recorded on YouTube.

I enjoyed the story of your "near death" experience, angelo

yes if we fully believed in the formless/God, that is everywhere and in everything, then death is simply a transition to another adventure, who knows? Smile
