Rebecca posted a timely reminder at another post:
quote:
Friends, the subconscious doesn't want anything and doesn't care about anything and isn't choosing to do anything. It doesn't have those capabilities. It just decides yes or no, off or on, black or white. It has no "opinion." It's just like a two-way toggle switch.

Although I have read about this a few years ago and recently again and think I understand it, I have my 'moments' of inclarity.

There is also so much information most of us have 'grown up with' regarding the subconscious 'sabatoging' our conscious, or issues in our subconscious that, left unresolved, have direct influence on our conscious...or we do this or that because 'subconsciously' we want/don't want (this now no longer the black/white understanding) something.

So I am wondering, is there a deeper level to our consciousness, perhaps a kind of 'between area' that we are irroneously referring to as our 'subconscious' (but isn't) when we make statements like 'my subconscious is sabotaging me' or 'subconsciously s/he is afraid of failure', etc?? Sabotaging, fear, etc. are not black/white, on/off effects or emotions. Fear is emotion, for example...so it cannot reside in the subconscious?? So it is coming from somewhere else? If so, where?

If the subconscious cannot 'want' (a positive OR negative experience for us), then other than the conscious realm, where DOES a positive or negative 'want' of self-sabotage reside? In a deeper part of the conscious (possibly a part we irroneously call the subconscious)?

Or is the conscious/subconscious simply and clearly divided and OUR problem is attributing abilities to the subconscious it doesn't have.

If the following sentence is incorrect, then how should it be worded?

My subconscious doesn't want me to do this or that etc. Or put differently My subconscious is sabotaging my efforts.

Do I sound confused? I am.

Hi Tosca,
What a GREAT question. As I was posting my reply in the "Need Help Crossing the Invisible Bridge" thread,(BTW, I believe that I made it thanks to you all Big Grin) the answer came to me.

The subconscious mind is in and of itself neutral. It is like a blank canvas. It is WHAT WE PROGRAM it with that can be positive or negative, and can be the source of many of our joys and sorrows emotionally.

I find that "the hardest work in the world" as Wally puts it is the initial DEPROGRAMMING process;that is, going from a scarcity/ the money will run out mindset to one of Infinite Supply and Abundance. For me, it is the key to getting out of the Prison of Scarcity (SCARE CITY) thinking.

Substitute "subconscious" with "old programming". Or perhaps you can say, "I need to reprogram my old thinking".

In my study of metaphysics and healing,I understand our bodies/souls/us as Human Beings to be multi-dimensional. So there are the:

Physical Body,(5 senses)

Emotional Body,(feelings, subconscious)

Etheric Energy Field Body,(the body's bio-electrical system which healing arts like Reiki and Acupuncture address)

Higher Self/Superconscious Body/God Self(soul, eternal self/spiritual body, connected to the heart organ).

The goal in my understanding is that in order for us to have abundance in life and to recognize our true greatness as Human Beings, all of these need to be in alignment.

Hope this clarifies things a bit,
Julia

Substiture "subconscious" with "old programming".

Greetings Tosca and Julia,
I love this topic,

Personally I've learned a lot reading:
"The Power of Subconscious Mind" by Joseph Murphy, PhD; many other books (including all Catherine Ponder's) and our SOGR PG LL lessons & exercises.

For me, there is a fine distinction between
"subconscious" with "old programming".

-Your old inner self-talk (and programming) is many times rejecting your new changes you want to implement, your new inner self-talk, up til now of course ... Wink

-Subconscious mind is accepting everything you impregnate it with, all the time (good/bad), with repetition, with emotions, what you think about, with feelings and you believe it and boom! ... you manifest it, all the time ... The subconscious mind is manifesting all the reality for you (for me, is like ... God or God - Connection, very important to grasp its meaning right!)

Key points for me:
-We live in two worlds: the subjective world of our thoughts, feelings, imagery, beliefs, and opinions; and the objective world from which impressions are conveyed to us through our five senses. The inner controls the outer!
-Our subconscious mind magnifies everything we deposit in it. Deposit Love, Faith, Confidence, Laughter and Goodwill ... Wink
-The best time to tap the subconscious is prior/after sleep, when you are relaxed, at peace, and ready!
-Your subconscious mind is the source, the residence within you, of Infinite Intelligence and Boundless Wisdom. Trust your subconscious completely, ask anyting, be peaceful, listen with patience, and you'll get the best answer.
-Your subconscious accepts and brings into reality your dominant of two ideas, feelings and images. It is your dominant thoughts, feelings, and images that control all phases of your life. (This is a Huge Point, this is IT!)
-Your subconscious mind is the source of your ideas, aspirations and altruistic urges. It is sometimes referred to as the Soul!

Got IT? Wink ...

Thanks sooo much the both of you. I have much to ponder but it is clearer...except the part Sandu mentioned...that the subconscious is the soul...I never concieved it as such, I believe the soul to be the Higher Self and that the subconscious is part of our present personality experience.

Both your contributions are so helpful and I shall print them out to reflect on! At the moment I am reading Divine Matrix but will look into the books mentioned by Sandu. Following Wally's advice, I do not want to distract myself with too much outside of SOGR reading...but feel the Divine Matrix in alignment with SOGR.

In this regard, your subconscious is just running programs -- like a computer. It doesn't choose the program, it just runs it. The programs are old; they've been in place since you were a child. They're made up of things you believe to be true -- what a small child would believe.

I'll soon have more to share with you all on what I've learned about dissolving those old programs. It's fascinating and SO rewarding!

Love & blessings, and, of course--
EXPECT Success!

Rebecca, same here, I really look forward to that! Wouldn't it be cool if you could just wipe out all the old negative programming at once and instantly replace it with new positive programming. Wink

Hi fellow travelers on the SOGR Highway!!!

I have taken a course by Harry Carpenter who wrote the book "The Genie Within, Your Subconscious Mind and How To Use It". Can be found on Amazon.com. He discribes the mind as being three parts, "The Reptilian Mind", "The Mammalian Mind" and "The Cortex".

The reptilian mind evolved 250 million years ago, is in the brain stem, is the same brain as is in all reptiles, is programed for survival so is paranoid. It conrols basic functions for life including heart rate, breathing, fighting, fleeing, feedind and reproduction. It has no feeling.

The Mammalian brain evolved about 50 million yeara ago and is essentially the same as in all mammals. It contains feelings and emotions, is playful and the sourse of maternal care. Mammals tend to their youn, reptiles usually do not. The mammalian part of the brain provides us with feelings of what is reae, true amd important to us, but is inarticulate in communicating these feelings to the conscious mind. Important features are that the subconscious mind is the source of feelings and derives imformation in terms of feelings and derives its value system by experience, that is experience with emotional impact.

Teh cortex is the conscious psrt of the mind and according to Carl Jung is about 40,000 years old and is still evolving. It doesn't begin to develop until age three and is not fully developed until about 20 - and may vary between individuals.

The subconscious mind stores every thing that has ever happened to us and everything that we have ever thought about - whether true or not, its up to us to control what we put into our subconsious mind!

Quote by Tosca, "My subconscious is sabotaging my efforts" can be changed to "I can control my subconscious mind to multiply my efforts"!

We can access our subconscious mind by altered states "Alpha" or "Theta". I find that I go into "Alpha" when I am standing in line, walking in the morning, gardening, driving on the freeway! It is a meditative, hypnotic state that allows me to function safely, not falling down, not triping on cracks, not running into other cars, being aware of traffic signs, etc. I guess that I have found myself going past off ramps at times. Sometimes people accuse me of spacing out!

Hope this helps rather than confuses!

Be good to yourself, live life passionately and always, always expect success!! I don't know how long I will live, but I'll live until I die!!

Thanks Tom for this - it too is food for thought. Recently I read again about the brain stem being the primitive brain, and the info mentioned reptiles - that part was new to me. An interesting description.
