The truth about habits

Hi All

Here is a fantastic poem about habit.

It is freely available online and has no credits to authorship. We must assume anon. There are no copyright restrictions that I know of.

I am your constant companion.

I am your greatest helper or heaviest burden.
I will push you onward or drag you down to failure.

I am completely at your command.

Half of the things you do you might as well turn over to me and I will do them - quickly and correctly.

I am easily managed - you must be firm with me.
Show me exactly how you want something done and after a few lessons, I will do it automatically.

I am the servant of great people,
and alas, of all failures as well.

Those who are great, I have made great.
Those who are failures, I have made failures.

I am not a machine though
I work with the precision of a machine
plus the intelligence of a person.

You may run me for profit or run me for ruin -
it makes no difference to me.

Take me, train me, be firm with me, and
I will place the world at your feet.

Be easy with me and I will destroy you.

Who am I? I am Habit.

Hope you liked that. It is the truth about habits. Apply habits to your learning of SOGR, especially the PG course.

I LOVE it Smile a.k.a. Your Subconscious Mind, or Your Genie Within.

I've never been able to find attribution for that and I think I first read it about ten or twelve years ago, maybe even longer ago. Sure would like to know who wrote it.

Love & blessings, and, of course--
EXPECT Success!

I really like that Croz! And as Julia says it describes our subconscious mind!

Hi

I had not looked at the poem as reference to the subconscious. I must admit that the subconscious does infact control our habits eventually, but a habit only becomes a habit after we have done it repeatedly in our conscious. There is no substitute for that initial effort and action.

Great talking

YES, the initial decision and first step-SO important. Big Grin

I was actually surprised to find just how many UNconscious habits I have, however, when I started doing EFT. And I don't remember ever consciously doing them or learning them, and have only become aware recently while doing EFT when an unpleasant emotion pops up. (LOVE those emotions, they always let me know what I am creating...or not. Wink) Many unconscious thought habits were programmed into me as a young child. I just discovered for example, that my "scare city" thinking came from an aunt who used to take care of us a lot. Her husband was a gambler, and she was always broke and complained quite loudly and often that "there was never enough money". With EFT, I have been able to let go of much of that old thought habit and develop new prosperous thought habits.

Well of course you can establish a new habit by conscious effort and repetition, but there is an easier way. If something is a passion for you then you don't have to put in the effort and you may not even have to consciously attend to the habit itself.

For example, now I am in my second year of shopfitting I notice I have skills in things like joinery, measuring and ways of spatial thinking that I didn't have last year. I was so happily engaged in the first year classes that I didn't notice acquiring those skills and it certainly didn't feel like an effort to do it. It was just fun and interesting.

Pauline, I really think that's IT! By loving what you do and being happy doing it, one effortlessly takes the required action, and learning is really easy and fun.
