Hello everyone! It’s Monday morning and I couldn’t wait to get to the forum to see what has developed. I am so grateful for the reassurance and insight I find here. I am a Christian, as was our dear Mr. Wattles. And while I accept the words of the Bible to be historical fact – I do not buy into “Religion” – I believe religion only complicates an otherwise simple set of values that God (use your own word for God here… Universe, Nature, Higher Power, Truth, Jesus, etc.) would have us live by. My contribution today is set forth in the form of a question that I think all of us should ask ourselves from time to time – if not daily - regarding our awareness and commitment of and to our Creator. It is NOT my intention to convert anyone or preach the gospel here – merely to provide an opportunity to find out how you place yourself in relation to the powers that be… I have been in all three chairs at one time or another and challenge you, my friends, to reflect for a moment on your answer to this question: Which Chair Am I In? Chair #1 – Puts God First - God is on the “throne” in their lives and his will is their priority. - The voice they listen to is His; they hear it and obey it when faced with difficult choices. - Their intentions are to do Gods will and they are grateful for every opportunity, comfortable or otherwise. Chair #2 – Puts God and Self Side By Side - God is not so much the Source but a “partner” sharing the glory - God takes a back seat if something “more important” comes up. There is a lack of consistency. - Appearances and circumstance tend to rule the choices this person makes. Chair #3 – Self Is Always On The Throne - This person rarely thinks in terms of spiritual matters. - They have bought into society’s “look out for #1” mentality. - No concept of cause and effect in terms of the Big Picture After asking MYSELF this question and giving it an honest answer, I find that I am sitting in chair #2, perhaps because my human nature is still in conflict with my spiritual nature in terms of “surrender”. Up till now, I seemed to be hanging on to the idea that it’s “too good to be true” and that if I let go, it’s a long way down to the cold hard ground if the truth isn’t there to hold me up. More present lately however is the confidence that comes when I “remember” to be grateful. It seems ridiculous to contradict myself this way – knowing what I know now. It either IS or ISN’T the truth, no half-way, and how could ANY of the daily miracles I witness be the result of Godless chance?? Silly… I am grateful for this opportunity to further clarify my own true understanding of these matters. *************************** We are not human beings having a spiritual experience - but spiritual beings having a human experience. -Ram Dass- Michael Portland, OR www.homefillstore.com | ||
