Hey, Karin, thanks for bringing this to the forum. I hadn't visited Katie's blog for a while and listening to this eye-, mind-, and heart-opening conversation was a fabulous investment of an hour and ten minutes earlier this morning.

Isn't it interesting how something can be so moving, profound, transformative, and downright FUNNY all by turns or even at the same time?

As always, I encourage everyone to download the info on how to do "the work" -- especially that outrageously simple but powerful "Judge Your Neighbor" worksheet -- and use it.

I've been doing it for nearly three years now and it never fails to amaze me when I get to the, gulp, turnaround.

I'm going to put this link on the Update Page and encourage everyone to listen.

What a wonderful audio (in my opinion, or from my perspective, of course).

Joyous. Funny. Heartbreaking. Wonderful. Heart warming. Precious. Inspiring. Empowering. Reassuring. Releasing. Freeing. Uplifting.

I felt chills, goosebumps. I almost cried. At times I smiled practically uncontrollably. (And I’m at work, so that must look pretty funny. Maybe they think I’m listening to a comedian.)

It reminds me of this quote a lot:

“We create our own heaven or hell. Your thoughts can imprison you or set you free. Complications, conditions or people do not upset you, but the way you think about them causes your upset. Freedom is not possible until we discipline and retrain our minds.” - p. 124 of Choose To Live Peacefully by Susan Smith Jones, Ph.D.

Though, maybe it's more like, 'freedom is not possible until we SEE or KNOW our own minds.'

What a wonderful audio.

I just LOVED the audio, thanks so much for posting. The part about the food was hilarious. How true that the things that really really irritate us the most are simply mirrors of ourselves, and as such, provide a wonderful learning opportunity.

I’m listening to this again (my third time) and it’s so incredible to me.

I don’t think I should talk about why too much. I think it would be like spoiling it for those who haven’t heard it.

But, I’ll tell you this, I can imagine it being turned into a movie, with maybe Meryl Streep as the woman Nancy, and,… not sure who could play Byron Katie.

It flows like an exquisitely written play. (But it's REAL!!!)

Phil

What I like the most is that the woman is so sincere, she is saying exactly how she feels even though it makes her look bad in a good wayBig Grin

Shirley Maclaine? I realized in the middle, not only that I identify with some points, and the huge ahas, but that there is one person I definitely need to do the judge your neighbor on. He's a great big mirror. And I sure don't want to keep it up. So, that's on the list too.

Kind of hard to imagine an actress playing Katie. When you're around her, there's something you pick up that can't really be described. Her "vibration" is so loving, so authentic. She can say something to you that is so to-the-point, truthful that it cuts like a knife but there is nothing but love behind it. And you can feel that.

(BTW, her mother named her Byron Katie _____. I can't remember if I ever knew the family name she was born with, but her last name at present is Mitchell. She just goes by Katie and uses Byron Katie on books, etc.)

quote:

Truth is the whole point of doing "the work." Without sincerely reporting how you feel ("Judge Your Neighbor"), you can't get anywhere. Katie says when you fill out the JYN worksheet, be as petty and picky and downright nasty about it as you can be. She warns: Do NOT try to be "spiritual" about it. Write down what you really think and feel.

And, yes, you do need to WRITE it down. That's because your mind can justify any thought in a heartbeat, but writing those thoughts down somehow stops it in its tracks. As Katie always says, "Just follow the simple directions."

You know what else? If you're there, in a group of people with Katie and someone is up front doing the work -- as this woman on the recording did -- no one in the room thinks what she says makes her look bad. Everyone there is thinking, Oh, I do that, too. Everyone there identifies with what's going on, even when the experiences are not something they've personally had, because all the experiences are just so HUMAN.

It's wonderful, and if you get the opportunity, I encourage you to attend a workshop, brief seminar, or even The School for the Work (man, THAT was an amazing 10 days!).
