What's essential?

You want to be rich, donâ™t you? Thatâ™s what brought you here. Let me tell you this: It is much easier to be something IF you have a good idea what that actually is. Or, to put it another way: It is much easier to hit a clear target than one hidden in a fog. Are you in a fog or do you really know what it is to be rich?

How do you define or describe being rich? Is it âhaving a lot of moneyâ™? Letâ™s hope you are wiser than this. Not that having a lot of money is counter to being rich. Iâ™m simply suggesting that âhaving a lot of moneyâ™ is not the essential quality of being rich.

Ok, letâ™s try to define ârichâ™ by adding more to this idea of âhaving a lot of money.â™ Letâ™s say now that you have a lot of money, power, influence and to add to that, you are also a remarkably attractive person and personality. Are you now essentially rich? No, not necessarily. You can have all these things and still not experience being rich. At least not like what you are hoping the experience of âbeing richâ™ is like.

The experience of being rich has to have some other unmentioned quality. Without this quality, you could have all the trappings of wealth â the money, influence, power, etc., etc. â and still not experience being rich. (Thatâ™s why theyâ™re called âtrappings.â™) What is it? Do you know what it the essential ingredient of being rich?

Iâ™ll give you a hint: The essential âingredientâ™ of being rich is already something you have within you, at least as a possibility. Iâ™ll give you another hint: You have very likely experienced it at one or more times in your life.

Iâ™ll give you another hint. You probably know who Bill Gates is. I recently read where his personal worth is over 40 billion U.S. dollars. Well, you could have all the material and financial wealth and influence and power of Bill Gates, but if you did not also have this other âingredientâ™ you would not be rich.

Iâ™ll give you another hint: You donâ™t really need ANY of Bill Gatesâ™ wealth in order to experience this other essential âingredientâ™ for really being rich. Do you know what this other essential ingredient is? If not, then try asking yourself this question: What might still be lacking, if you had all the money, influence, power, fame, respect and prestige of a Bill Gates? (Not that Bill is missing this ingredient. For all I know, he has this âingredientâ™ in great abundance.)

So, now do you know what is essential to experience being rich?

If you still donâ™t know, let me ask you this: What is it that you would hope you would experience an abundance of, should you somehow come to have all the money that you could ever want, need or use?

Iâ™ll give you another hint: You donâ™t really need even another dime to have this other essential âingredientâ™.

Iâ™m guessing that by now you know what âitâ™ is. If so, then let me ask you another question: Why do you EVER deny yourself of it?

Phil

Hi Everyone...

Is IT ... Gratitude?

I heard part of a tape from Abraham Hicks that's helping me, especially during times that are more trying than most. It takes practice but it helped retrieve my lost sense of humour on many occasions.

On the tape it was explained that someone had come up with the idea of playing "What do I like about this?" as a way of looking for something to be grateful for, even whenever faced with something that's bad/negative etc.

One example on the tape: In a traffic jam "What do I like about this?" Answer, along the lines of, "well my car is so well engineered, it runs smoothly even though we're hardly moving. I like looking at the pretty girls in the other cars. Been next to that one for quite a while and I like that!" Etc, etc.

A friend of mine and I regularly pull each other up if the other's complaining, asking "Well what DO you like about that?" Often it's difficult to think of something, but we always end up laughing and that pulls us up and helps break the negativity down.

I may not be doing this justice here (the tape covers it so well), but it's something I'm continuing to practise as it keeps me from heading down the destructive, negative path.

Anyway Phil, looking forward to what IT actually is?!

Best wishes to all.

Wilx

Hi Phil and all,

I'm guessing it's Love... as in "the greatest of these is..." Joy is something I will continue to have once my reality becomes my life. So is peace. I do have both of these now... along with the love part... but they will increase as I can give more of many things (time included!) to my family and friends. Gratitude? I've got that as well, although there are admittedly times when it isn't as prevalent as it is at other times. Smile

Thanks for another 'thinker', Phil. You always have a way of making me pause to reflect... and that's a good thing.

Live in Light,
Coccinella

I think it is happiness because you can have nothing but still be happy.

My thinking is that it is the God within you, or the 'Oneness with All', or the
'connection to the Universe', or however you want to call it or express it for yourself. - if you have that, you have everything.

Have a great Blessed day, everyone!

Love, Terry.

Hi Phil,

Now you make us think!!! But I guess we shouldnt even be doing that because its that easy...

My guess is: GRATITUDE, given LIFE and all that comes with/to it.

Thanks for keeping/waking up the forum.

I just wanted to let you all know that you were ALL right.

It is simply,⦠a very good feeling. (Peace, Happiness, Love, the feeling of being close to God,⦠all simply very good feelings.)

That is the thing that is truly essential and necessary, for anyone to really experience Being Rich.

You are not really rich until or unless you are, at least generally, experiencing very good feelings. Anything less than this is a sham, donâ™t you see? Donâ™t you agree?

So, now you know what âitâ™ is.

But I donâ™t think you know what the significance is of knowing this, along what everything else I said. Remember, I said:

You donâ™t have to have the more money, or relationships, or conditions or status, etc., etc., etc., in order to feel however you want to feel. Can you see this? What this means is, if youâ™re feeling anything less than wonderful -- wonderfully peaceful, loved, loving, wonderful well being, wonderful happiness, etc. â itâ™s not ever because of what âisâ™. You arenâ™t feeling however you are feeling because of REALITY out THERE. Youâ™re only feeling however you are because of your PERCEPTIONS, BELIEFS and EVALUATIONS happening inside of you. You are only feeling however you are feeling because of what youâ™re focused on, or what youâ™re believing about what âisâ™ or how youâ™re choosing to perceive and evaluate (including what youâ™re choosing to believe are your chances of greater and greater success and happiness).

And if youâ™re choosing to perceive and evaluate in such a way as to feel so-so, or just ok, or blah, or anything less than some very good feeling, what you will always get is the equivalent experience. Is that what you want?

Now that you know you CAN choose to feel some wonderful, desirable feeling REGARDLESS of whatever circumstances or conditions you are in, then why donâ™t you? You donâ™t because you either donâ™t know that you can, or you are afraid.

Most people will continue to see things as they are, and so they will continue to feel less than satisfied or fulfilled or thrilled about life. But this is like being in prison.

Freedom â the way out of this prison â is to more and more and more be feeling (and hence, focused on) the way you want things to BE, the way youâ™d prefer things to be. For example, if tomorrow you went about consciously practicing FEELING AS IF YOU HAD IT MADE you would notice and maybe realize and maybe finally come to KNOW that nothing OUT THERE had to change in order for you to feel GREAT.

And this knowing â if you keep at it â would show you â experientially â that you really are NOT a prisoner of any circumstance or condition. And once you really realize this, you are really on your way to really being rich, in every way.

Do you see this?

Phil

Hi everybody
had what seemed to me a bit of a revelation today.
I think maybe there is only one thing you need to get to where you want on this journey called life.
Gratitude. I think gratitude is all that you need.
Gratitude for all the wonderful things in your life, past and present and gratitude for all the not so wonderful things and circumstances as well, because withou them we don't grow, we don't learn what we need to know.
With gratitude we give thanks and focus on the positive, with gratitude we open up our hearts
and let the love flow.
The opposite of gratitude is resentment - emotionalise both feelings for a moment and know that pure gratitude is love in motion.
Give thanks for every single thing in your life, even if it's only because you've woken up breathing this morning.
You've needed every single experience to get to where you are right now . . . the fact you're sitting here reading this - being part of this forum - means you're on the right path!

so, so eternally grateful,
Susha
