So I think all kinds of negative thoughts about my job. I try not to, but more often than not, I'd rather not be there. Or, I focus on the positive aspects, but rarely get to the good stuff because other duties limit my time.
So after mentally grumbling about this one chore that I just hate and got stuck doing all morning long, my store manager came out and asked me what he could do for me. We talked a little and it turns out he just hired a new person to help out with the job I hate. Doesn't this just prove its all random and chaos and that sometimes things work out and sometimes they don't? Based on life experience, neg leads to positive more than pos leads to pos. And pos leads to neg sometimes too. Its so confusing. |

I don't think it is all random. I think we all approach this different and we each have to find what works for us.
I got in a big fight with my partner yesterday. The kind that ruins your whole day. Spent the day angry, mentally complaining (though trying to catch myself and shift) and generally hating life. Decided to just drop it all and watch movies all day. I got a big spike in orders after days of zilch. _______ Follow your bliss! |

A couple of random threads from my alleged mind... see if they make any sense.
"God (the Universe) Works In Mysterious Ways" Some people using Law of Attraction principles try to equate it to a store - let's say a grocery store for this example. I want a can of beans. I give the clerk a dollar and I get to take the can of beans home. Question 1: Was it the clerk who gave me the can of beans? (as in 'POOF', here's your can of beans, sir!) Question 2: Think of the reality; how many people did it actually take to make that can of beans available to me? On the flip side, how many people did it take to put that dollar in my pocket? My point is, we seem to think that if we put the order/time/energy into a specific place, THAT'S where the result should come from! It's so easy... TOO DAMNED EASY, to miss opportunities even when they are right there in our face because we rigidly expect our returns to come from the same place we invested in. For example, I poured 23 years of loving care and attention into my first marriage. Still, it ended in divorce for reasons I've detailed ad nauseum in other posts. As advised, I'm not going to relive that experience over and over anymore by 'telling my story'. The thing is, because I didn't get the love I put in back directly from that source, I got jaded and bitter. However, my current wife loves me to pieces. She has amazing counseling skills and has helped me through many an issue. One of the biggies was my fear of letting go of the past in order to let love flow into my life. She reminds me CONSTANTLY that SHE is returning the love I gave in my first relationship. It's MY turn to be loved!" Are you stubbornly resisting - maybe even ungrateful for the good you already have - because you don't think you are getting your desired result from the place where you gave your body, mind and soul? It has certainly been a challenge for me. I don't think I'm that much different than many folks on this forum. I'm going to challenge all of you to look RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE, RIGHT NOW. What you are seeking is probably there, and has been there for quite some time. And in the odd chance that it isn't, open your sight to ALL possibilities. God (the Universe) really DOES work in mysterious ways. All the best from Toronto, Russ "Every time you encourage others to believe in themselves, you magnify your own greatness!" Russ, I think you are so right!
I had an idea on the drive home tonight, listening to SOGR on my car CD player. I think that trying to break our dreams up into manageable pieces creates blockages. I find myself resisting one thing because I think I need this, then that, then the other thing first. What if it's more convenient for the universe to give us what we want in a lump sum, or in a different order? My biggest lesson (other than gratitude) is to be willing to receive unexpected gifts. |

Why have a business at all if your good is not coming from it?
Of course, the short answer is that one should be in business because they get satisfaction from it, not to make money. They say if you get into business just to make money, you will likely not be satisfied and will likely not make much money. Unfortunately, most people who hear such advice are probably already stuck in a job or business they do not love, which they probably got in just to make money. Mr. Wattles advises that one should use an undesirable job or business as a stepping stone to get to the business they want. I wonder, does one need to see a way to get from one to the other? If getting there is entirely dependent on one's action, doesn't one simply need to find a way to do both? _______ Follow your bliss! |

It seems to me, whatever are our job duties, they don't cause us to feel however we feel. WE cause ourselves to feel however we feel, by how we think about them. As for negatives leading to positives and vice versa,... I can see how this would seem true to you, because you are labeling things negative and positive. But, what if everything is positive? What if it's ALL GOOD? Then, there would be no negatives leading to positives, or vice-versa. It would all just be everything leading to your greater good somehow, someway. To me, your view that this is all random and confusing comes from you believing your judgments, e.g., "This is good. That isn't good." Judge all of it good, and then find what's good about it and profit from it. You say you rarely "get to the good stuff" but it's ALL good stuff,... unless you believe otherwise. The seeming randomness and chaos is coming as a result of how you believe something is good and some other thing is not. Phil "The Universe is responding to how we feel." Esther Hicks |

No, I think it proves somewhere along the line, you are making progress. I think if you find ways to be grateful even for things that "appear" negative, you'll see more evidence and results that there is a Science to it all. |

My question for Annievt would be how has what happened actually helped you get rich?
My suggestion is to closely study chapter 15 of the book entitled "The Advancing Person". Has you attitude and the outcome actually advanced you and opened up for you more opportunities, say for promotion, or a new job, or a raise? Dazzer....awesome question and suggestion. While I'm grateful not to have to do this one menial job, I've been getting lots of other responsibility with no financial increase. Even if I move to the position that corresponds with the responsibility I am taking, the raise would be minimal and the hours atrocious.
Chapter 15 it is. Thanks. |

So I reread 15 quickly as I must go to work. I got to the part about wage earners. I definitely do not work to please others, though I do work for money. I definitely do work to please myself in terms of pride in my own work. My managers have noted that I don't particularly care what they want as long as my little part of the world is in good shape and they are fine with that. The book does mention if you do good workand fill your place, you will likely be left where you are. Thats about where I am right now. They are happy to have me stay in the background and work hard.
I do not have a clear vision to hold in my head while I work, as there is nothing at that place I want to do. I have no ambition to do anything but travel and study and have my own place with nothing more than a part time job, but I don't know doing what. Gotta go...don't wanna be late...well...actually I do...late like never again, but thats not whre I am at. hmmm |

I once had a wealthy man tell me that, back when he worked for other people, he always made sure he always did more than he was paid to do...even at a job he really didn't like. He said the reason was he didn't want to develop lousy habits or a bad attitude for when he found what he really wanted to do.
Good advice, in my opinion. Michael |

Actually, annie, I don't think this proves anything at all about negative thoughts being productive. I haven't read all the other replies, so you may have heard something like this already. But, being granted a helper to help with the job you hate is outside of the results we work for by following SOGR. The results we work for, by right thinking, are our advancement to a more suitable position, and/or more wealth. Your negative thinking has not and will not bring you more of either.
I have struggled with this issue quite a bit. I am a teacher, and really quite tired of doing it. I'd like to be in a position where I don't have to pander to bureaucracy, follow archaic rules that hinder what I really want to do for kids, or be judged by supervisors who probably couldn't do what I do. After reading and re-reading the chapter on work (try listening to it in the car, over and over....stuff really sinks in!), I have come to understand that it is, as always, my THINKING, the positive energy of my thoughts, and my being willing to do "as much as can be done that day", AND in a "successful way," that will move me toward what I want. Doing my job successfully means having gratitude that I have a job at all, given the fact that I am the major support for my family. It means doing my work in good faith, working to not speak ill of others (I've got that down...now I need to work on not thinking ill of them, either!), and basically ridding my mind of all negative, whiny thoughts about the job while I do it. If you re-read the chapter, you will see that this is the stuff that gets us closer to what we want. Again, it is not our place to try and figure out HOW smiling at the job will help us get a better one. We are not in control of the process...it is not logical. Hope this helps Joyce |

I just read something else you said, that you don't have a clear vision to hold in your head at work, since there is nothing there you want to do . Again, you are getting it wrong...the "vision" that I hold in my head, and in my being, while at work, is a feeling. It is the glow I have when I think about being in the position I want to be in, i.e., in control of my own time, doing something I love every day, AND the absolute conviction that I will get to this point. Again, it is a process to get to the point where you can do this...it's taken me awhile. Mr. Wattles says that, by holding a clear vision while doing things, he does not mean that you have to actively picture yourself in the life you want, every second of the day. Once you know your vision, and what it will FEEL like to be there, you can instantly conjure up that feeling any time, and it will brighten everything you do, no matter how menial. Once you can train youself to this point, it will be easy. But it takes some time. Again, please let go of any sense that this is a logical process. It is not. It is an act of faith.

Hi Annie,
You didn’t respond at all to my reply, so I’m going to assume it didn’t help you. Ok, then, let me try another approach. You seem to believe what you experience is somewhat random and chaotic. I imagine you probably extend that thinking and also believe what is going on with others and the world is also random and chaotic. You believe good things happen, but so do bad things. So, with this belief, I can imagine if you believed there was a God he must be some kind of fickle, whimsical, maybe even sadistic jerk. (No wonder you’re an atheist.) I believe NOTHING is random, chance or an accident. I believe everything happens with exact precision, more than the precision of an atomic clock. But here’s the rub, or so it seems to me. Whatever a person believes, they will tend to find all the EVIDENCE they need to support it. So, if you believe the Universe is random, you’re going to find ways to make it seem so. And since I believe the Universe is exact, fair and precise, and always good and friendly to us, I’m going to find reasons or evidence that supports what I believe. I was having a discussion about this with a friend of mine. I said, “It’s all good. It’s ALL good!!” and he responded, “What about the oil spill? How is that good?” My first response was, maybe it will alert just the right persons to really try to do something about this oil dependency thing. Maybe it’s time we changed how we do things, and the Universe is telling us, giving us fair warning. I remember reading that one of the billionaires who decided to make electric cars did so because he kept thinking, we have to find an alternative to oil. But recently something else occurred to me. Suppose there was never a spill? And suppose there was never an Exxon tanker that went aground in Alaska and spilled all that oil. Suppose the oil companies just were so efficient and effective at getting the oil out of the ground that they NEVER ever spilled a drop of it? What do you think would happen? Eventually we’d run out of oil, but we would never have gotten any forewarning about it. Can you imagine the scenario? We never got any warning about it, and so we naively kept going on pumping gas and buying gas guzzling cars, until one day, without any warning,… no more gas. Pumps dry. Simply,… no more gas,… without any real warning (at least, none that anyone really paid attention to, because it was not obvious). Maybe these spills are a blessing in disguise because they’re making it painfully obvious that our dependency on oil is causing escalating problems. Maybe it will stir more of just the right persons, to take action to really get to some good alternative solutions. And that would be a GOOD thing. In other words, maybe the oil spills are a GOOD thing. I think they are. I think they’re BIG enough to get our attention, but not big enough to permanently destroy us or our environment. How does this relate to your life? What if everything you’re labeling BAD is actually good, in some similar way? I believe, everything that happens to us that we DON’T LIKE is GOOD, because they are like we are being given personal warning signs that we need to change something, especially in how we think or believe, since that’s where all personal cause begins. Maybe you need to, once again, sit back and get clear on exactly the kind of life you now want, including how you want to really assess and think and feel about yourself. And like Joyce said, and I’ve heard you say it before,… you don’t have a clear vision of what you want, whether it’s work or relationships, or even how you routinely really want to be spending your time. Maybe you need to get more clarity of what you really want. I think, when we’re not experiencing what we really want to, the Universe gives us all plenty of fair warning. (We get unwanted feelings. How’s that for a consistent warning?) We get notified that somehow we need to change. And when we’re ‘back on track’ the Universe seems to also be giving us positive feedback. (We feel good.) Phil p.s. Joyce: I enjoyed much of what you wrote. Elsewhere, I thought I read about a woman who dropped out of the public school systems and started her own school. Taught very successfully, getting remarkable results with inner city underpriviledged kids. So much so that the government invited her to Washington D.C. and gave her a special award. Don't remember her name though. Just a thought. "The Universe is responding to how we feel." Esther Hicks |

Annie, that is a clear mental vision. Don't worry that you don't see how to attain it. It doesn't matter that it has nothing to do with your present job. What if you won the lottery? Or you found a job that paid you to travel and study? What if you got a fellowship to do graduate work or research involving doing the things you described? The point is that your vision is already yours waiting for you. You just have to think of it often, feel the serenity and joy, and allow the universe to deliver it to you in any way it wants. Also try Rescue Remedy or something. That negative thought loop is totally holding you back. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if one day you woke up and your life had completely changed into your dream. It will happen as soon as you let it. Don't be scared. Love and blessings, Rachel |

Thinking about it, it may be that my neg thoughts about the situation had nothing to do with the manager hiring a new person. I almost forgot that sometimes action creates results. It was probably obvious to my manager that we needed help. Thats his job afterall
It does seem when we participate in any of these mind over matter, LOA courses, that in an effort to foster belief, we are taught to look for coincidences. How many times have we applauded someone's success at somehow creating a positive coincidence concerning their thoughts plus their cmi? It does follow that we will be looking for any coincidence be it positive or negative. |

Phil...I do get your point about judgements. I have no problem with bad because it sheds light on good. The use of good or bad for me is just a reference tosomething I like or dislike. I dislike being hit by my husband. I call it a bad thing. Twenty years latter....I gotta tell you, no good has come of it except it makes solitude look absolutely divine.
But excessive good/bad judgements can lead to negativity and shut out possibilities, so thank you for pointing it out. |

Well, I personally don't think action creates anything at all. That's the job of THOUGHT. But here's the thing: It's not just thoughts about your JOB that affect what happens in your JOB. It's not that specific. It's more like the sum total of your thinking. Wally didn't use the word vibration in this book, but that's what it's about. It's ALL your thoughts. So if I'm thinking not-so-good thoughts about myself or someone else, or I'm worried about something, or I'm feeling sad because of something someone else said or did, any of THAT might show up as problems in business or at work or somewhere else. It's all ONE. Any thoughts that cause me to feel less than wonderful will lead to some kind of less than wonderful experience. And the reverse is also true! And I am grateful! BTW, annievt, you may be absolutely right that your thinking had nothing to do with the manager hiring a new person. But your thinking has EVERYTHING to do with YOUR experience of that new person. Love & blessings, and, of course-- EXPECT Success! Rebecca |

Annie, I thought this was a thing of the past. It sounds like it's still going on. Have you tried contacting a public service to see what your options are? Maybe there is a shelter you could go to. Just a thought. Phil "The Universe is responding to how we feel." Esther Hicks |

Hey Annie,
Have to admit, I had similiar thoughts the other day after I got very frustrated at God, the universe, whatever, at not having had any opportunties come up in a long time and I vented my frustrations out loud in prayer! As I vented, I tapped with EFT. And wouldn't you know it, the next day I got an email with an opportunity for a possible job! Which of course led me to think "what is going on here?!! How did this come up when I've been focusing on the lack of it?!" I'm guessing its maybe like Russ said, what I put out in good feeling earlier is coming back to me now?! At 6am this morning when I woke up after a dream about not having enough money and wasn't able to get back to sleep, I vented my frustrations again. (tapping at the same time) And while maybe getting frustrated and venting my fears and insecurities may not be the best idea, I gotta admit, tapping on it at the same time as I yelled at the universe, did make me feel better and a lot more relaxed! Cheers, Shannon Live as if you have faith and faith will be given to you. |
