Kristian,
Thanks for asking for anecdotes. I’ve enjoyed reading them and will share some of mine as well because I have so much to be grateful for:

I started reading SOGR in November of 2005. Nothing happened for 2 months, except a growing joy and happiness.

Then I went to Vegas. I applied SOGR haphazardly and had a wonderful trip. I’ve written of the trip here before, but since you asked I’ll reprint it…
A Certain Way Vacation
Recently, I went to Las Vegas from Orlando over the New Year weekend. While on vacation, I tried (somewhat successfully) to practice the science of getting rich. Here's what happened:
A month before the trip my flight was changed from 9:00 am to 7:00 am in the morning. Much to my chagrin, I accepted it. As it turns out, the amount of travelers that day would have made a 9:00 am flight late/delayed and the lines much longer due to ridiculous traffic at the airports and bad conditions later that day in Atlanta.
Once at the airport, I was grumpy, tired and impatient. Just ask my wife! We breezed through the ticket lane only to find the security line extremely long. People were moaning with me as we turned a corner to see it backed through the entire Orlando Atrium. I fumed and fussed under my breath. Then a security person came to the back of the line called us forward to start a brand new line where we were 2nd in line.
Once we were in the roped, snaking line where we could actually see the metal detectors I closed my eyes and thought about gratitude and my lack thereof so far. I remembered the quote and thanked God for all the good luck so far and the good luck yet to come. Moment's later a security personal came to my side and opened the lane to let me to an empty metal detector. My eyes met hers and I expressed my surprise. Without words she urgently motioned me forward as if to say, don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
Upon arrival at the airport I called the Bellagio. We were told that there were only sunset views of the mountains and no views of the strip. Well, I had learned by now not to worry and that nature was for me. However, I expressed gratitude and also expressed a mental image of a view of the strip from my room. Upon arrival at the hotel, they checked again and lo and behold they had a strip-view room in the quietest part of the hotel.
The next morning we went to the Hoover Dam on a tour bus. Tired and grumpy as usual. However, I reviewed the science and the certain way and offered up some gratitude and remembered not to be competitive in long lines or at any attractions. At the dam, the guide said, "Go back to the hotels and gamble, because you are extremely lucky. Yesterday, we had 4000 people and were only equipped for 1000. Worst day to be at the dam in my entire career as a guide here." At this point, I wasn't surprised only grateful.
Dinner reservations were confirmed for a swank steakhouse. Seats next to the fountains that went off every fifteen minutes. More than I even asked for.
On the trip back, we wanted first class. We didn't want to share our space with a stranger so we wanted just two seats. Well, first class was sold out, however, the exit row was empty. We sat together, in only two seats. My wife read Wattle's book for the first time. I couldn't have been happier. She "got it" on the first read through. Her statement was that she felt like she knew a happy secret.
What's missing from this story is the fact that I am an impatient type-A person who hates crowd and inconvenience. As the trip progressed, it slowly dawned on me that the certain way applied to not competing with crowds or fuming over seats. I slowly began to enjoy the trip more. I am probably forgetting something. However, I wanted to express that gratitude works and for that, I am grateful.

I have muuuuch more to be grateful for. My point is that the Certain Way doesn't just apply to work, it applies to vacations. Heck, it applies to life

Okay, so that was the vacation. Now on to some clients.

I’m a financial planner/registered representative. I stumbled onto some clients with over six figures to invest. I am compensated as a fee of assets under management. I spent most of my month wooing them. Turned out to be a hoax. Could have been discouraged over 300k annual paycheck. But I know it’s coming…

In February, I inherited a some clients from an outgoing broker. My assets under management grew 9 fold. Pretty cool.

New business is referred to me constantly by CPAs and clients. This is a major part of my CMI because I used to cold call people. Don’t have to anymore. If you’ve ever cold-called, this is HUGE in terms of how much I’m enjoying my job.

Parts of my cmi are filling in and I can’t give details. But I’ve made more in February through May then I made in all of last year. Not bad.

But what’s neat is I’m relaxed, no more tightness in my lower back at night. Almost no anxiety. Life is like a dream most days. I’m so grateful.

I know this is long, but I thoroughly enjoyed writing it.

Krisjhn,

I understand that you are looking for validation that SOGR works, but the truth is that we are all starting at different positions and we all have different opinions on what it means to be rich.

Although I am not rich yet, my life has changed drastically. When I first read the book, I was unemployed and we were in the process of losing our home. I half-heartedly applied SOGR on a part-time basis and found a job literally the day before we had scheduled an appointment with a realtor to sell our home. I also started a small pet sitting business with absolutely no money for advertising, business cards etc. I used my home computer to make cards and brochures and a funny thing happened - I started getting calls immediately. Even though it was still a struggle and bills were just barely getting paid, we were able to hold on to our home and I was extremely grateful. Unfortunately, the book was put away and I only thought of it occasionally.

Then about 2 months ago I found the practical geniuses course and good things started happening again. Both of my sources of income have picked up. Now, our bills are paid on time and we finally have enough money to have some fun and enjoy life. Instead of losing my home, I am planning some remodeling projects and we are even looking at buying a boat for the summer. Smile

I am a long way from what others would consider rich, but my situation has improved so much that I feel rich - and it just keeps getting better. There are also other improvement in my life besides money. I have a much better relationship with my husband and two stepsons and I just feel lighter and happier every day.

For me, it has been little steps. The more I apply SOGR, the more things I receive and therefore, my level of expectation is also increasing everyday. I now know that I can have everything I want - I just have to figure out exactly what that is.

I hope you find what you are looking for.

Kim

WOW I was feeling really down the other night and I just got this email in my inbox. I am sat here having just read all of the successes that people have posted and I was pumping my chest knowibg I can make it happen for me and nearly in tears as I was reading. I especially loved the story about flying as I want to fly but need to learn, so I will visualize flying and "it too shall come to pass" and I will see you up there in the beautiful blue skies.
I have fallen off the rails but I keep getting back on, I forget to do things and to be thankful so I need to "FOCUS" I LOVE YOU ALL.

The story is told of an Englishman, whose favorite hobby is ballooning, who decided to practice his favorite sport one Sunday afternoon. He miscalculated the wind and was blown across the English Channel and landed in a field somewhere in France. As he was lying there half-stunned in the basket, a Frenchman rushed up and says, “What happened?” The Englishman says, “Where am I?” The Frenchman replies, “Why you are in a basket in the middle of a field.” To which the Englishman asks, “Are you an accountant?” The Frenchman replies, “Yes I am, how you know?” “Because the information you have given me is completely accurate and totally useless.” ... Wow, Kristian!
You are a 'bee in the bonnet' of this little website. You have it quite a-buzz, and it sure has added a spark of energy. So much response and an ego or so getting a bit of a nudge. To quote Byron Katie, "Defense is the first act of war". Ah well, the 'up' side and therefore the one worth focusing on. is this: it has brought some valuable responses. It is a brave soul that dares to walk in unchartered territory, I applaud the questioning mind, and the site for rising to the occasion. Wattles is smiling, I am sure...as you are focused, you asked for what you needed to know, and you went after an answer, so it did indeed arrive, and consequently there is a delightful over-flowing of wealthy 'content'at this post.
Without questioning and enquiring minds, this planet would still be in the caves, and we would still be grunting.
I will add a little story of my own now:
I was raised by Mrs.Wattles, well, my mother could have been the equivalent. My mother was a power house when it came to stuff like SOGR. She was a natural. My father was a burnout (after the war),consequently, taking care of the family fell on my mothers shoulders. She quickly rose herself to this situation and she set her focus: 'her-girls' would still have every advantage and opportunity . Consequently, she moved us to Westmount,Que., which is a bit like Beverly Hills, in Canada...she set the star high and then she went after it. Well, she eventually managed to secure a mortgage to a lovely home, but there were many a visit to the bank before this mortgage was secured, this was in the 50's. Most visits she was given an unqualified "NO", and she was told to forget it and she was laughed out of the bank and told to not return. She did return, again and again, and she eventually got what she needed. She of course, succeeded in paying the mortgage off, on time, and also purchased another property for rental purposes. She pulled all this together on a minimum wage paycheck, and yet she had a way of attracting exactly what she needed into her life, and she always had enough to share. She fed elderly neighbors of ours, for how long, I can't remember, I simply remember that mom went next door, everyday after dinner, to take care and bring a warm meal to this elderly couple, who could not fend for themselves at all. This was after a long day at work, but she did it gladly. I have many stories, and I recall them when I need to move forward in the areas that I occasionally get stuck. These memories are inspiring to me. And they are what Wattles teaches, and it is why I enjoy SOGR, it reminds me of my mother (who has passed) and the lessons I have learned from her... and keep learning.
We are all children at heart; and we all love stories with happy endings.
Bea
