Hi all,
Jesus was described as saying "The love of money is the root of all evil." Does this statement contradict the teachings of SGOR? Would appreciate if you guys can enlighten me on this. Thanks a lot! |

Things that are said to be the root of all evil
The love of money (φιλαργυρία), according to Apostle Paul (1 Timothy 6:7-10). Often misquoted as just "money". "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." Source=Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Root_of_all_evil |

That was actually Paul, not Jesus. And the word "worship" might be a better fit than the way we commonly use the word "love."

So is love or worship of money the root of all evil? If so, then how does the the teachings of SGOR not contradict the statement?

In the Bible:
“…you have not passed this way before” (Joshua 3:4). God desires to take you into new places in your life. He wants to take you to deeper places in your walk with Him, and He wants to take you into higher places of blessing in your life, only if you are not obsessed with money... Are you ready to go to places that you’ve never been before? So many people today get stuck in a rut because they don’t want to get out of their comfort zone. They want to stay with what they know because it’s comfortable. But in order for you to reach your full potential, you have to be willing to step out into the unknown. You won’t ever walk on water until you step out of the boat! We all have areas we can rise higher in. Open your heart today and be ready to step out into the unknown. Trust that the Lord will guide and order your every step. Begin to expect that the unexpected is on the way. Be ready to step out into new places. As you approach your day with faith and SOGR expectancy, you will move forward in the abundant life He has for you! OK Chris? Sandu-CanDo! Looking for online business associates |

You can have alot of money without money HAVING you. I believe Paul was warning us not to love/worship money, knowing that people have a tendency to do just that. There are lots of folks with no money who love/worship it and their lives are a mess.
The SOGR teachings only confirm that we are to live in abundance and never to worry about tomorrow (what you will wear, eat, etc). We are also to be givers, which we would have a hard time being without an abundance from which to draw. What honor can we give to God if we live in want/need? Regards, T |

SOGR doesn't say anything about worshipping money, which, the way I see it would be believing that money is your Source rather than just one of the many ways through which Good can come to you. You could call that love, too, as long as you're using a useful definition of love -- like, for example, appreciation. If you believe that everything comes from God, then how could you NOT appreciate/love it as you appreciate/love all the other gifts you receive? Love & blessings, and, of course-- EXPECT Success! Hi Chris,
I certainly cannot quote the Bible at this time in my life. However, my intuitive place [which is where my God speaks to me] teaches me to answer the call of giving from the heart, then abundane follows. That abundance comes in many forms. It keeps me well out of the grasping, negative competitive place that does not allow me to be in a receiving place or to believe that life offers abundance for all. I'm a Christian who has read SOGR and has started studying it.
Yes, the SOGR focus is on getting riches (whatever that means to you), but your motive is what is important. If you motive is completely selfish and arrogant and all you think about is money, that is where you are "loving" money or "worshipping" money. God prospered people in the Bible! 2 Chronicles 26:5 (NASB) "He continued to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding through the vision of God; and as long as he sought the Lord, God prospered him. |

Hi Chris,
I am also a Christian but do not have my Bible at hand. English translation might differ from the Dutch one too but I clearly remember that Jesus said, I have come so that you may have abundance. No ifs or buts or maybes. I have come and you have abundance. He never said, I came and now you need to worry about money or love of money all the time. God wants us to be great. We are his children!!! Any parent only wants the very best for their kids. Only one caveat. The one big commandment. Love God and Love your neighbour as you love yourself. 1. Love God and seek Him first. 2. Love yourself 3. so that you find it easy to love your neighbour. God bless you, Caroline |

Hi Chris
The way I understand it, from a lay person's perspective, is that the "love of money" in the quote refers to the lust and hunger for power by using money to manipulate and control others , to the exclusion of everything else. And why be rich? just some quotes from SOGR Wally says in Chapter 3 "It is the natural and inherent impulse of life to seek to live more; it is the nature of intelligence to enlarge itself, and of consciousness to seek to extend its boundaries and find fuller expression. The universe of forms has been made by formless living substance throwing itself into form in order to express itself more fully." And in Chapter 5: "The desire for riches is simply the capacity for larger life seeking fulfillment. Every desire is the effort of an unexpressed possibility to come into action. It is power seeking to manifest which causes desire. That which makes you want more money is the same as that which makes the plant grow; it is life seeking fuller expression." and he warns us not to be seduced by lust for power in chapter 14: "Today, the main motive in the business and industrial world is the same: Men marshal their armies of dollars and lay waste the lives and hearts of millions in the same mad scramble for power over others. Commercial kings, like political kings, are inspired by the lust for power." "Look out for the temptation to seek for authority, to become a master to be considered as one who is above the common herd, to impress others by lavish display, and so on." All the best Blessings Kevin "I think of life itself now as a wonderful play that I've written for myself... and so my purpose is to have the utmost fun playing my part."
