I am reposting this because, for some reason, it has been removed from the message board. I've already received some responses but would like to hear more.
I've just started reading the book and the more I read into it the more disappointed I'm seeing this as a cult. What would you say to someone who is feeling this way? Why does my logic prevent the acceptance/attainment of faith? Advance thanks for your replies... |

Next,
No, it wasn't removed. You originally posted it in the Let's Discuss the Book public forum, whereas this is the Let's Talk it Over course forum. And no, I don't believe this is a cult. Anything but. All the best, Verti |

next, could you please tell us more why is your logic refusing to accept The Science of getting rich?
It sounds like your logic is being illogic |

What would I say to someone who saw The Science of Getting Rich as a cult? Well...I would ask several questions. First, do you know what a cult is? Webster's defines it as a formal religious veneration or a religious system. Second, I would ask, where in the book do you find anything even remotely resembling a religion? (In fact, Mr Wattles points out that your particular religious beliefs are not relevant to this science.) I would also ask, how do YOU define a cult? How does The Science of Getting Rich fit that definition? Didn't you determine your own "tuition" to pay for this course? Do you think there will be additional "surprise" charges in the future that you will be forced to pay? Are you afraid you won't be able to walk away from it at any time? Or, are you afraid that you just might realize that your own thinking is causing your experiences and that you might learn how to change that thinking to create happiness and success in your life?
As far as your inability to have faith goes, nobody can answer that question for you. |

Dear Next
You should get out more often The theory put forward in SOGR has been outlined in numerous other books, Mind Power by Kohoe, Magic of believing by Bristol, Magic of thinking big by Schwartz to name but three. Wattles (& Rebecca F) have packaged it in a useful manner Cult, no way, you should get out and about more often Peter H |

Thanks for the replies, found them interesting but still, I'm finding myself still confused/doubtful/whatever. Reading this book has caused me to realize a new way of looking at this life/world/moment. But my logic, which has always been my light, can't advise me how to confront these NEW thoughts and ideas. And is even more confused at HOW this can be possible.
This was addressed by saying something to the effect of "these are not needed to be done" but what if I WANTED to KNOW HOW and WHY? If anything is truly possible, what stops me from above GOD? |

Remember when you went to buy new cloths.
I'm sure you tried some cloths and you didn't buy them because they didn't fit or for any other reason. Can you remember ? Well, think of this book as a new suit you're trying. Remember, you don't have to buy it! Just give it a try and if you don't like it you can still give it back! Clear your mind before you start reading the book. You can do this by repeating a word for like 100 times, then start reading without any doubt. REMEMBER! You're just trying a new suit. |

Hi next,
I haven't been on the board for a while, very busy recently, but from what you have been saying it looks like it's just the old fashioned doubts creeping in. We have all seen the movies and wintessed the news when "cult" societies brain wash people into all sorts of beliefs and tendencies and so the fear of having joined a "cult" is present with you. This is entirely understandable and expected. I'm sure we've all had the doubts when we first met this thing called sogr but what is inscapable is that it works. Treat it like a universal law. We do not call physicists a cult society simply because they advocate the laws of gravity. SOGR also advocates a set of laws for which scientific proof (of the kind acceptable to scientists) is not appropriate simply because of what it is. Just for a moment, let me reiterate what SOGR's main message is. Change the way you do things. Change the way you think. Change the way you live. Change the attitudes that hold you back. No where in SOGR does it say that these things are easy to do but do them we must. A lot of what SOGR advocates is based on good living. Moral living. For example relinquishing the competitive urges within us in favour of the creative. Why? Because creative enhances us without bringing harm or expense to others. This is symbolised by the famous "turning the other cheek". Cultivating gratitude is another example. Why? Not because we want other things so we have to pretend to be grateful for what we already have. The reason behind this is that it causes us to keep thinking of things to be grateful for. How easily we forget the tiniest things like seeing and hearing. How easily we forget the most valuable things that make everything else possible. Being truly grateful for the things we already have opens up avenues for us to receive and be grateful for things that we as yet do not have. It does not change God, it changes you, your success changes other people and it changes your destiny. I would say that applying logic is not a good place to start. First understand what the words and phrases really mean, try to live in accordance with them and then after that you may apply all the logic you want. Your conclusions will be as a result of what has happened to you in your life not what you thought of the ideas when you first read them. Hope all this helps. Happy new year to one and all. Yigit |

As you have changed the location, here is my answer again:
Hi Next, just a thought: Usually people get to this kind of literature when they "are ready" to experience their life's from a different point of view. When they have realized that their own mind and ego can't pretend anymore to know everything and only work in someones own best interest. There is a good chance that people are confronted with this teaching at a time, where they still believe in their own power as all there is and would not be willing to trust in their faith to surrender to a higher power, the Universal Mind. Could it be that you are coming from that place? If so, you have the choice to either call this a nice opportunity to have met some people with other opinions, or just to stay and open yourself up to the incredible vastness of the Universe and "surrender" to the Laws of the Universe". That requires you to be willing to be open and receptive, and not to judge with your conditioned mind. Do not take what you know now up 'til now as the measure for what you are confronted with in this "teaching, science", whatever you want to call it. If you decide to stay, skip through previous posts and see what's going on here. If you open yourself up to this and get poised, I promise you will love it! All the best for you, Horst |

Yigit, great answer! I thought of more words to encourage Next, but you said it all.
Next, that's the most important message from Yigit: What you think about this "book, programm, teaching" is your reaction about your previous life. Clear your mind and study this with no preconceived mind. Horst |

SOGR is all about âthinking stuff.â In a cult you would not be allowed to do your own thinking. This is totally opposite. Each member of this forum probably has a different set of dreams and their thoughts are driven in the direction of their individual dreams. We all want different thing, yet we will all get these things by using the same method of gratitude, and giving thanks for what you have and what you will have, (what is coming your way). If you are confused, step back for a while and think about it. You may not be ready for this course at this time and thatâs OK. Remember in the beginning chapter or prefaces it states: âwhen the student is ready the teacher appears.â That will be true when you are ready too. Mary |

Nice replies.
I didn't mention it but, last night, I decided to UNDERSTAND and BE what IS, BEFORE I decide to BELIEVE what IS(my version of "putting everything aside"). You'd be SURPRISED(I think some of you already KNOW), I'm a quick learner! Already I've started to form my next two job positions(in order to prepare myself for the eventual goal of not having to work again) and I looked out my office window and looked at the houses on the hills and saw where I will be moving to. Overall, I would say today was DIFFERENT. With my future now in my hands, I'm those of you who KNOW to please advise me on how to ACT. |
