I found this book to be a disappointment on the whole. After reading "Think & Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill, as well as the "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" series by Robert Kiyosaki, this book simply pales in comparison in regards to its intrinsic value. The terminology still needs a lot of work firstly.. I can not take anyone seriously that continuously refers to "thinking stuff" as the magical tool which we should be utilising in order to be rich & successful. Basically as far as I have gleaned, his message to the world is 'pray hard enough and God will hear you and give you what you need'. That's an awfully big leap of faith.. especially for someone who does not believe in a God as such (a lot more people these days). For me unfortunately, the age of this book is previlant in its battering of religious themes and notions, and lack of scientific evidence to back up the author's claims. How are we to trust such claims when we are given no reason to trust the author or his beliefs as 'the only way'. He was wrong when he said the claim is true, unless proven wrong. It is false, until proven correct. So the question is, who can prove it?

You will only see that you believe. I personally know many people who applied the theories and get measurable results. One cure herself from cancer, one increased his profits of trading tremendously and many achieved their goals. Learn the message instead of picking on the language. The book is not there to entertain you.

I wasn't "picking on the language". I was pointing out he book's downfalls. If you can't handle the fact someone may have a different perspectove on the book than you, then you are just plain ignorant. Don't judge me because I don't have the same opinion of the book as you. Contrary to what you might think I'm not as ignorant as you appear to be. "You will only see what you believe" right Chin? Your words mate, not mine..

A Warm Welcome to SOGR Forum disappointed83, Thanks for sharing your sincere point of view. I had better and better SOGR results, manifesting around $30K extra this year, so based on my own SOGR PG experience, I like very much SOGR book and PG course. My new aquired (with SOGR) self-talk, gratitude, faith, purpose, determination, efficient inspired action is priceless! -For the one who believes, no explanation is necessary ... -For the one who does not believe, no explanation is possible! Hi disappointed Im sorry you are You will find many people here who do not believe in "God" in the Christian sense of the word, but whose experience is that the approach of Wattles' works. His message is not "pray hard enough and God will hear you" ... at least, not in the sense I think you may have interpreted. There is much more to it ... having a clear vision, and a definite purpose, and then being prepared to put the appropriate effort into being disciplined to both think and act in "the certain way". The book is mystical ... but then, a great many of life's laws are.
Actually, no ... scientific investigation begins with a hypothesis that is assumed to be true, and then efforts are made to support or disprove the hypothesis by experimentation. And while the language is archaic, there is no doubt about it, Wattles' approach is, in his mind, scientific. But in any case, what do you have to lose? Rebecca, who has made SOGR so readily available to us all, makes the comment that she decided to "act as if she believed it" ... and by "faking it" so to speak, until it became real in her life, it did indeed become real. There are quite a number of people here who would say they have proven it in there own lives ... why not take a step back, decide to "fake it" a while, and see what you think in a few months. But only do it if you think you can embrace the "faking it" wholeheartedly - as Wattles says, if people are not absolutely determined to make it work, it is not worth the effort. Good luck! Love people, use money.

Hello disappointed83 I found the book fascinating when I first read it. And the archaic language is not even noticed when I read it because the contents simply delighted me. Yes I have bought and read Robert Kiyosaki and Napolean Hill's think and grow rich. Think and grow rich in particular was one of the classics in self help literature along with dale carnegie's how to win friends and influence people. To compare them, to me is like comparing two vintage cars. Both have their good features and both are well, vintage The truth is, I wasn't looking for proof of any kind, just something that I can apply without any delay and is practical.SOGR more than fulfils my expectations. In short, it works! Like some one once said, the proof is in the pudding Much blessings Blessings Kevin "I think of life itself now as a wonderful play that I've written for myself... and so my purpose is to have the utmost fun playing my part." Yeah, I bet 100 years ago it was fairly difficult to conjure up words to describe the ineffable. And yes I'm being completely facetious. It's another book in a long line of an oral, written, and acted tradition of Hero worship. There is a formula for success by whatever measure you give to your concept of the term. It's not a secret formula rather a ubiquitous one. But there is only "one". If this book didn't help lead you to it, then hopefully those others might. Or maybe you're your own best guide.

Greetings Disappointed, As you I had read many authors on abundance thinking before reading SOGR. Many of them echo the principles of SOGR. For me the book by Wally and the Practical Genious Course by Rebecca were the most direct route to where I expect to be. These principles are something that has become part of my everyday life and I have seen positive results. My relationship with my wife has improved to the point that we are not argueing about the business and are having the best year financially ever. But it isn't for everyone, and you are apparently one of those who it isn't for. Find the method that you can get excited about and stick with it. You will have the same results as those of us who are happy with SOGR. Be good to yourself, live life passionately and always, always expect success!! I don't know how long I will live, but I'll live until I die!! Tom Strong

Hello there! I am new also and I have read Think and Grow Rich 3 times and I had the tapes in my car and listened to the book read to me while driving probably 200 times over two years, not to mention the cd's in the house while doing housework. I also read all the Rich Dad books and played cash flow 101 on a regular basis with friends. But Mr. Wattles book was the best ever for me. I have a tendency to find a reason why something won't work but Mr. Wattles writes that we should not ask why or try to figure it out just practice living in the certain way. I said to myself ok I will give it a chance, I want to be rich, I can DO this without disecting any of it. IT WORKS!! I am experiencing many positive attributes to my life financially and other and can't wait to see what everyday is going to bring. I have never been happier; I just love this. I have been self sabatoging myself for years, and I am not sure why a book that my first grader could read did all this for me but if it makes my life so much better and now better for those around me all I can do is be thankful for Mr. Wattles, Rebecca and everyone on this forum. I wish you well and I hope that may be you can dive into the life lab's as you probably did commit to do and read a chapter a day and don't ask why just do and be delighted. Best wishes in whatever you choose. I hope you will keep us posted. Catherine EasternCT-RealEstateGuide.com

Here's what our Forum Guidelines say -- and everyone who registers has agreed to abide by them: "We're here to discuss The Science of Getting Rich and the principles it teaches in an encouraging way. (We're not here to argue or tear apart the book or other people.)" So if you're NOT happy with the book, not choosing to study and USE what it teaches, then this is simply not the forum for you. There are plenty of places on the 'net where you can go to bash things. This is not one of those places. So let's get back to our purpose here of encouraging each other (those of us who ARE following the book) and let go of trying to talk anyone into anything. There's no point in that at all. Thanks! Love & blessings, and, of course-- EXPECT Success! Rebecca

I find your view-point disconcerting to say the least Rebecca.. Forgive me if I'm not mistaken but if you will scroll all the way down to page 26 of the book (it's such a long way in and very well hidden in that giant grey box to the right).. I believe it states in bold print: "Do some of these bold statements challenge or confuse you? Get the insights and thoughts of other like-minded people in the online discussion group at www.scienceofgettingrich.net" So you're telling me the book encourages readers to challenge or debate its theories in the forums if they so feel inclined, but then once they have registered with the forums, it is somehow illegal to simply state their views that have previously been encouraged? That sounds like a very dodgy process to me, and I'd urge you to have a think about the consequences for the online community, and the confused readers who are led here in vain in the future.

Mmm The terminology still needs alot of work hey? This is one of your quotes. I think you forget that this book came out in 1910, and if you take notice and read it carefully you will realize that alot of the modern books are saying exactly what this is book is saying, except written in a different way. I myself have been practising all these techniques for quite sometime. You need to do it in a way that you are not expecting something to happen and to make it part of your everyday life. I can let you in on something that happened to me last Wedensday. I won $60000.00 on a Money Train on a poker machine. Now, I usually don't play these machines very often. I got a very weird strong feeling, the strongest feeling I have ever had. Cut a long story short all I spent was $5.00. I am cetainly not telling everyone to go out and play on poker machines, but it can come in so many different forms. What it has done for our family is fantastic. We only just 8 weeks ago refnanced a bank loan for $38000.00. I can now pay that off straight away. It gives us a fresh start, and moves us even closer towards our fexible plans. I have not posted for along while but after reading your little statement, I decided to post this to let you know if you practise these things everyday and just enjoy your life that bit more everyday, it can go a very long way!! HERES TO A BEAUTIFUL THING CALLED LIFE THAT WE LIVE EVERYDAY, AND WE SHOULD LIVE IT TO THE FULLEST. Thank-you.

I can't say that the book has ever disappointed me. It has helped to completely turn my fortunes around. I also have read Think and Grow Rich and found it a great read but I just couldn't assimilate Napoleon Hills teachings. SOGR turned on the light for me. I guess that for some people it takes a little longer to "get it". If you see through the perceived religious aspects of this book and the 100 year old language, you will see that the principles are timeless. I am a walking talking example of what SOGR can help you to achieve. Hi, Thank you for your post. You say in your post for someone to prove to you if it works or not. I would like to respond in saying why not use the SOGR philosophy and test and see and prove it to yourself that it does or does not work. I have found that the greatest way to learn anything is through the daily application of it on a consistent basis. The book talks about God.....this reference is also associated with a higher power, a higher intelligence and divine spirit etc. It is up to you which you choose however the key is a connection to a higher power/spirit that guides/inspires you to take inspired action which leads you to the results/outcomes you desire! The question is can you prove it to yourself, that the theory/philosophy does/doesn't work by practicing it I would be interested in finding out how you get on! Best of luck! Sorry Rebecca, but this post is the best you can do? You know, sometimes when people disagree with something, it gives others a more solid belief for themselves. Those who read her post may just now realize how much they actually appreciate SOGR! To come off with just a "silencer" maneuver is, well, disappointing. John John Soriano

Disappointed, To be quite honest with you, (which is to say the same as you have appeared to be with Rebecca and the people who visit on this forum), I am very disappointed in your attitude and messages to us. Perhaps it goes back to the cloak which covers you, namely your chosen name--disappointed. Remembering now a humerous story portraying how clothes make the man. Two robbers set out to break into a building and steal money. One was to pretend to be a policeman and stand on the corner while the other did the actual breaking and stealing. To achieve this end, the one robber dressed in the uniform of a policeman, complete with badge, billy club and blue shirt and trousers. When the fellow accomplice came out with the money and hissed, "C'mon!" the "policeman" marched him off to the local jail because he was a "policeman" and could not allow a robbery to occur on his beat. If you choose to select a name such as "disappointed" perhaps it will be impossible for you to ever be other than. "Enlightened" might be something you want to consider. Or perhaps "educated". Possibly just simply "learning." It is important to learn to not call other people names, especially when one has extended themselves to assist in your own growth. You asked for proof from the readers and when given that by Chin, immediately leaped upon her with both spurs flashing, rather in a fury that someone could have the gall to promote a success when it obviously went against your opinion. Let me be the first to stick up for Chin and say she is not ignorant. Chin, it looks to me like you are quite intelligent and I praise you for it. You Chin are smart. You are perceptive and sincere in trying to help others. May God pour out his blessings on you and continue to open the eyes of your heart. Because Mr. Wattles is right. He knows there is a "thinking stuff". He is closely associated with the Living God and quite good friends with His Most Holy Jesus Christ. And he knows how the heavens work. Remarkable to me that he had the sense to figure it out, something so simple and open before us all. Your declaration that you do not believe in God, whether the as such or not, only makes me laugh. You could as easily say you do not believe in me, that I do not exist, you have not seen me, or touched me, or heard me or..........So because I am not in front of your face, this hypothesis is true--I do not exist!! If only I had known that! Not to mention my poor chemistry teacher. Is there any other word for faith? Any other description than, absolute belief in something that is impossible, or appears to be impossible? For that is what "The Science of Getting Rich" is all about. One simple little word--faith. Believe in something that isn't. See something that isn't. Ask for something impossible. Receive it, before you receive it. While your understanding of his message is "pray hard enough and God will hear you and give you what you need" certainly is true and happens all the time, (read the last story in the Chicken Soup for the Father and Daughter Soul, it shows this beautifully, and to a man who was, guess what? An ATHEIST!!!)unfortunately that is not what Mr. Wattles is saying. His homework is totally different. He says to: 1. visualize what you want. 2. give thanks for it 3. take action to bring it about. So, have you painted in your mind one thing that you want? Have you sat down with a piece of paper and written, "Thank you, God for my wonderful new 2008, midnight blue Lincoln Town Car." Have you gone to the dealership and driven one around the block? Read the ads in the paper every day for one? Asked you friends if they know anyone who has one for sale? Opened up a separate savings account and put money in it every day for it? Cleaned out your garage to make room for it? Gotten a shave and haircut, put on a clean shirt and pair of pants and shined your shoes? Taken on extra work on saturday to save up more? Asked the dealership if you could come down and wash the new cars before they go on the lot? You have received many responses to your message, every one given in a kindhearted manner. Even after your disagreeable torrents. It seems to me there is some gold in them, as well as in Mr. Wattles' book. And fortunately, not that difficult to find. Wonder

Wonder, In answer to your tirade concerning your perceived lack of gauge of my character.. I did not come here to start fights with the members of your community. Frankly, I have better things to do with my time. For example, reading self-help books on success, and giving an objective review on the subject-matter once it has reached its desired outcome. But apparently, your slice of the cyber-world isn't ready for such a drastically radical way of thinking.. Honesty apparently is no longer the best policy. If you'll notice from my replies, I only retalliated against those members that made unjust attacks on my character, credibility, or my views on the ebookin within their intital replies. I have the right to defend myself and my view point, do I not? Or perhaps this is another right that has been abolished in your community guidelines?? If not, I'm sure you will take necessary measures after the creation of my thread. Also, do not advise me that I have some sort of aversion to success. People who are naturally opposed to success do not spend their spare time reading books they think will help them find success. That is just ridiculous. You'll notice I said I found Napoleon Hill and Robert Kiyosaki's books very enlightening. How could I enjoy these books if I had no taste for true success? Ask yourself that question. It's funny you should mention you laughed at my post when you found out I was an atheist.. because I also laughed at your post when you proceeded to batter me with your christian beliefs! I guess I see now what sort of audience Dr. Wattles was targeting specifically when he wrote this book. Other people such as himself who look to religion rather than science for their answers.

Hi Disappointed An interesting thread, I will comment that if you have read lots of other books on this subject, you will agree that they all refer to the power of your thoughts. If you are continually thinking disappointment, and then name yourself disappointed, I suggest that you are in fact proving one of the fundamental principles. Regards the proof of these teachings, they have been the backbone to my recent success [5 years] I have personally amassed many millions of dollars using these teachings. I am at present mentoring a young lad called Josh, once again using these teachings, and it may be beneficial for you to pop over to his website and check out what happens when you use these teachings and follow them to the letter. His website is Josh's Website The wonderful thing about all this is that everyone can be right, if you tell me it does not work, and that is your belief, GUESS WHAT, you will be right. On the other hand if I say that it has changed my life and turned my fortunes around, I am right. Someone mentions earlier that this all depends on faith, correct. We all have plenty of faith, the trouble is that some people use it to their disadvantage. You have the utmost faith in the fact that these teachings do not work, and as long as you hold that faith you will be right.Everything that happens in our life is a result in our faith that it will happen. Perhaps it just might be worth loosening up a bit and looking for a different solution to your search. I promise you, whether it is Napoleon Hill, Charles Haanel, Robert Kyosaki or any one else you decide to follow, at some point you will have to have faith in what they are telling you, or as is happening now, nothing will change. If you want some serious reading as to whether these teachings work, just search Croz on the archived posts, and you can follow my journey. I feel sorry for you that you cannot find any resonance from these teachings. Well Disappointed I hope there may be just a chink of light in your outlook. Abundance to All Croz

Hi again disappointed and fellow travelers on the SOGR highway, I really enjoyed Croz's reply, he has been at this longer than I and had more success than I. However for my first year at this I earned over $100,000 more than the previous year. And I am selling my business for $200,000 more than I would have thought possible earlier. As you I am not into relegion and find that most relegions are a means of controling people. However I am more like some of the founding fathers in the US, Ben Franklen, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington who were deists, people who beleive in a universal God. Current authors who resonate with me are Wayne Dwyer and Depock Chopra. I belive that Thinking Stuff can apply to all relegions, I know that Thinking Stuff is part of me, when I think positively positive things happen in my life! When I think negitive thouthts guess what happens! The law of attraction works - I wouldn't have to beleive in God to know that! Henry Ford said "Whether you think you can or you think you can't you are right". Be good to yourself, live life passionately and always, always expect success!! I don't know how long I will live, but I'll live until I die!! Tom Strong
