Dear Friends
Yesterday, I had been explaining the principles of the Law of Attraction (LOA) to my mother. In order to illustrate the principle, I referred to the common metaphor “you are like a magnet, like attracts like”. But then, she rightly said: “Well, I always thought that a positive side of a magnet attracts a negative side. And the positive side pulls away from another positive side”. Hmm. Any thoughts on that? Meri,
I am happy that I am attracting some of the opposites. It would get kind of boring around here if everybody was just like me caroline |

Hi Merens,
For me it is more like 'bringing myself in alignment with that which I want'. Sort of getting my vibration to match the vibration of that which I want. Since what I want will brings me JOY, when I am in a JOYFUL state, I attract what I want. Or maybe it's better to say: It becomes noticeable for me in my life. I have used the analogy of guitar strings on two separate guitars on this forum before. You can find a link to that here. In short: When I pluck the A-string of one guitar -- symbolizing my desire for something + the positive emotional state when I imagine it already being there -- the A-string of the other guitar starts to vibrate as well -- symbolizing the manifestation of my desire, or simply put: Me noticing "Hey, it's already here!" I found that metaphor very helpful! Lucky Let's have some FUN at the 2007 THINK! Seminar! |

Hey ho, Meri.
Here's the metaphor that suites: You are the magnet, but everything else is just metal. So change the kind of magnet you are if you want to attract other kinds of metal! See? greetings, Anne T. |

I use a mirror metaphor, everything what you think and believe about is reflected back to you regardless of whether you want it or not. When you go look in the mirror first thing in the morning, the mirror reflects back exactly what it sees, bed hair, sleepy eyes, everything you don't want to see normally early in the morning! The mirror doesn't know you wanted to see yourself looking like you just stepped out of shampoo ad, its just reflecting back what its getting.
Choose your thoughts because the world will reflect them back in the form of manifesting them. Shannon Live as if you have faith and faith will be given to you. |

Hi Merens;
Tell her that she's right when talking about two magnets but first ask her "what is a magnet?" and "how do you create a magnet?" Your question made me search the net for some explanations and I started by getting a definiton of what a magnet is and a simple one that google gave was: "a piece of iron or other material that attracts other pieces of iron or steel" and a second one was: "magnet n. An object that is surrounded by a magnetic field and that has the property, either natural or induced, of attracting iron or steel." That explains where the metaphor "like attracts like" comes from. A magnet will only attract to it other items that are made out of iron but won't have any effect on something like water. The interesting part of the definition is that there are some objects that are naturally magnetic and then there are others that can be "induced" to become magnetic. In a similar way there are some people who seem to be just naturally successful while some of us have to work at it and work at it and work at it. How do you create a magnet? I searched the net to find out "how do you make a magnet" and the following page did a very good job explaining it. The author says "magnetism is a matter of alignment." Read the page to see what it means. The answer to how to make a magnet is that if you had a large iron bar you could turn it into a magnet by rubbing it with another magnet or by passing an electric current through it. Now it will be magnetized and it will attract other objects to it. What happens when two magnets come close together? The magnetized iron bar will also attract other magnets but only if they are aligned properly. The positive pole of one magnet must be aligned with the "negative" pole of another magnet ("opposites attract") and the two magnets will become one. If the two magnets are not aligned properly they will repel each other. How is this related to the Law Of Attraction? All this fits perfectly into the metaphysical idea of "Law Of Attraction" in that our mind is like a magnet which will attract to it things which it is like. How do you magnetize your mind? We can magnetize our mind by passing a current through it (our thoughts, actions -- since though is just energy) or by rubbing it with another magnet (friends we keep, family we grew up in, books we read, news that we focus on). Since we are always thinking we are always attracting things to us but the type of "magnet" we are is depended upon the type of thoughts we keep. Our mind can become a "success magnet" by passing successful thoughts through it or it can become a "failure magnet" by passing negative thoughts through it. Since "like attracts like" we will attract what we are like. Law Of Attraction: Two Magnets At Work The following page states that LOA could be expressed as "whatever you want wants you." You can think of your mind as being one magnet and the thing you want as being the other magnet. The thing you want is a magnet so it will naturally draw you to it but you have to keep in mind that (1st) you have to magnetize your mind to be like what you want and that (2nd) since "magnetism is a matter of alignment" we must align ourself with what we want in order to become one with it or as in the case of two physical magnets we will repel what we want. How do we magnetize our mind with what we want? Answer: By thinking in a certain way. How do we align our self with what we want? Answer: By gratitude and acting in a certain way. What happens if we don't align ourself with what we want? We will repel it! There is some good and bad news in this law of "repulsion." The bad news is that we can create a super magnet for success by constantly thinking about what we want but if at the last moment when the success we are seeking is in our grasp we may repel it because deep down we don't align ourself with it due to fear, lack of faith, lack of action. The Good News is that if we've created a "negative" magnet with our negative thoughts which is leading us to a negative condition it does not mean that we are destined to go through that negative condition. If we deep down do not align ourself with that negative condition it will be repelled from us and it will never attach itself to us. Thank god for that :-) Hope that helps. :-) The following page is an interesting read. |

I had the same question a year ago, so I altered how I thought about it. What I found was this - what we resonate with, resonates with us. IN other words, the speed at which our personal energy moves, other 'forms' moving at the same speed are attracted to us. It's the old 'piano and chandelier' effect.
Hope this helps... namaste kevin "create your future NOW, or someone will do it for you." KH |

Many thanx to David for the thorough work you put into your explanation of magnets and the law of attraction ... brilliant stuff ... makes it all much more clear.
