Seems like there are fewer postings on the Discuss the Book site, and while Wally says to not study anything else until you have the SOGR principles down, it seems like that is no longer valid.

My experience was that I thought I was doing exactly what was outlined and things got worse, not better until I went to the 'It's All Relative' site and started following the suggestions given to me there.

If all one needs is to follow the 'certain way', then why isn't everyone rich yet?

Many think they are following the ‘Certain Way’ when they are not. Wasn’t that your experience?

why isn't everyone rich yet?

One definition of rich is, to be experiencing abundance. In that sense, everyone IS already rich.

The problem is, many are experiencing an abundance of LACK.

Everyone is already getting an ABUNDANCE of the experiences and conditions that mirror their particular beliefs and feelings.

Everyone is already RICH with the experiences and conditions that mirror their particular beliefs and feelings.

If you want a different kind of rich and abundant experience, change what you believe and feel.

“Everything in our experience is mirroring what we believe to be true.” Jeddah Mali –Spiritual Mentor

“The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen.” -- Frank Lloyd Wright, Master Architect

“The Universe responds to how you feel.” Esther Hicks

To improve your experience and conditions affirm the highest truths about yourself – peace, love, well being, health, worth, your Child of God deservedness, infinite potential and essential unconditional happiness, etc. What you are on the inside – what you believe and feel – will eventually get mirrored back to you on the outside – in your circumstances, relationships, experiences, etc.

Think about this: You've studied enough now to realize,... it's your choice, whether you pay attention to the thoughts that make you feel peaceful, loved, worthy and happy, etc., or whether you pay attention to the thoughts that make you feel unhappy, inadequate, lackful, etc.

No arm twisting involved. You get to choose. It's now your choice.

The way I look at it is discussing the book is for people who are not understanding what was written in the book.

The its all relative to me is more about people who have questions regarding their paticualar situation.

You mean that if people aren't using the "Discuss the Book" category, then what the book teaches is no longer valid?

Hmm. Actually the categories here are just something I made up. No big deal. Just a bit of organizing. But it seems to me after all these years that pretty much everything gets discussed in all the categories.

And the forum activity also seems to sort of go in waves -- it'll be relatively quiet for a while, either across all or in just one or two, and then suddenly there'll be a whole new rash of discussion in one or more. Again, it's no big deal and I don't see any particular useful "meaning" in it.

I think Phil and CaptJack are both right. And sometimes the stuff you read about in the "Relative" section helps you understand something in the book better when you didn't even realize you were NOT understanding it.

(BTW, Wally did NOT say not to study anything else. He said that if your intention is to master this system, then don't run off trying to learn other ones. There are a number of things discussed in these forums that are helpful, complementary to SOGR and are NOT "other systems.")

You may also be incorrectly attributing a cause-and-effect relationship here. Often, when someone begins to study and really LIVE these principles it will seem like everything is going wrong for a bit. It's not; it's just GOING -- making way for the new and better.

Most of us have been thinking and living in the opposite way so long that we've built up quite a lot of momentum and there is a lot of stuff on its way to us that we'd rather not have -- but we've created/attracted it to us by our up 'til now habitual thinking. So it's going to show up to be swept away. Doesn't always happen that way, but it's not uncommon. And it causes some people to think "this doesn't work," when, actually, it's working PERFECTLY.

Hi Megan

The wonderful aspect of SOGR is that "rich" is up to you to define and you decide what is meaningful to you. As you get more and more in tune with this way of thinking, you will find that your feelings play a central role in helping to clarify what is important to you and what you really care about. And the more exciting and fulfilling life will become for you.And you will realize more and more that the journey is your destination.

As Wally says, there is no hurry on the creative plane. Let life unfold for you, the nature of this way of thinking is that you can't simply rush through the learning of these principles and expect instant results, although that frequently happens when we let go of our perceived limitations.

What usually happens is that you will start experiencing more and more wonderful moments in your life. And it's no surprise that the more consistent your thinking is, the more consistent your external results will become, whether it's more money, or other tangible and intangible things. That's the beauty of it all. You get to decide what you desire to experience. Smile

Blessings

Actually, Phil it was not my experience. I absolutely believed I was following the 'certain way' and had it not been for the advice of many people on this Forum that recommended other things to try, I would not have ever known many things by just reading the book. The book says it'sd for people that have a pressingneed to et rich, monitarily, it saus sfter you get rich, then go on to study other methods. But I didn't get it from the book about feelings, etc. It just didn't register that...enter at once into the full enjoyment...was telling me it was more than daydreaming....

Megan,

I hope I’m saying this in such a way as it will be helpful.

It seems to me you’re saying exactly what most people do. You say you absolutely believed you were following the ‘certain way’ but it seems apparent (to me, at least) that you were not.

Now, I don’t mean to sound like I am defending Wattle’s SOGR book. In my case, the book was not the end-all, do-all book for me. But, for me, it was more helpful than ‘Think And Grow Rich’ (which also didn’t ‘do it’ for me). In fact, I am continually finding more books and material to read, view or listen to and learn from.

And, you say, “I didn't get it from the book about feelings,…”

Let me say, neither did I. At least not to the degree that I believe is its importance. (From what I understand, the FEELING part is very important.)

What helped me really understand the importance of how we FEEL (and its impact on what comes into or stays in or leaves our lives) was the Abraham-Hicks material. But I believe A-H was very helpful for me because I had already read extensively on why we feel however we do, from reading ‘main stream’ books by notable psychologists, e.g., Wm Glasser, David Burns, Wayne Dyer, Nathaniel Branden, Abraham Maslow, Harold H. Bloomfield, etc.

And I also had read many metaphysical or mind science books or pieces by Ernest Holmes, Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, Jose Silva, Maxwell Maltz, Joseph Murphy and Neville Goddard. (I'm mentioning all these authors because I think they all have much that's helpful.)

I suppose I’m digressing. The bottom line is, I think if a person were to live ‘the certain way’ they would have to experience their life reflecting back to them their ‘certain way- ness’. So what IS ‘the certain way’? In my opinion,….

It’s living with COMPLETE ATTUNEMENT to the things, conditions, relationships, circumstances, knowledge and experiences one wants.

And how – at any given moment – can one know whether or not he or she is ATTUNED to whatever is wanted? By how one FEELS.

If you can think about yourself and feel good, you are attuned to what you want, and you will get it or it will come to you.
If you can think about others and feel good, you are attuned to what you want, and you will get it or it will come to you.
If you can think about your circumstances, no matter what they are, and feel good, you are attuned to what you want, and you will get it or it will come to you.
If you can be alone, with no distractions, and feel good, you are attuned to what you want, and you will get it or it will come to you.
If you can think of ANY condition – past, present or future – and feel good, you are attuned to what you want, and you will get it or it will come to you.
If you can be wherever you are, doing whatever you are doing, and feel good, whether it is taking physical action, or simply relaxing, resting or pondering, you are attuned to what you want, and you will get it or it will come to you.

Or, as the Grand Poobah herself once put it,…

“Tending to your own thoughts and feelings and letting yourself become the perfect match to your desires brings you joy and peace. And I promise you that your own joy and peace are the keys to everything -- EVERYTHING -- you want, for yourself and others.” Rebecca Fine

"I imagined myself, over and over — even way back when I was a total poverty case — living a life of ease, strolling around my big white house on a hill, with nothing to do, sitting on several million worth of assets. I visualized this repeatedly, and it came true in my life.”

Megan & All,

One more aside. I was checking my email today and lo and behold, I got an email ad from the Bob Proctor organization. Bob attributes his going from $4K a year to over a Million A Year, year after year after year, for 20+ years to, guess what book? Wallace Wattles’ Science Of Getting Rich.

So, what’s he selling? His ‘how to’ on SOGR. (He apparently ‘gets it’ that many do NOT ‘get’ what is in SOGR.)

Also in Bob’s ad he says, “Wallace’s The Science of Getting Rich has served as the foundation for every piece of work that I have ever written, including powerful seminars that I have taught worldwide, from Europe to Asia to America.”

Consider this: How Wattles’ expresses his ideas in SOGR may not resonate with you. But, it seems, the ideas are sound and true. You may just need to ‘hear’ them in other ways. Even Wattles’ SOGR is his take on others he studied. Here is another piece from the above mentioned ad:

“Wallace began to mingle with several leading New Thought leaders, among them Emma Curtis Hopkins and William Walker Atkinson. His world suddenly opened up to a new way of life. He threw himself into a world of study, immersing himself in the writings of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and Ralph Waldo Emerson, to name a few.”

My suggest is: Look for the PRINCIPLES that govern success, happiness & health, in whatever you study. It’s the PRINCIPLES that you need to understand and make use of.

(Note: I’m NOT suggesting you buy it. But read the ad for its CONTENT. If you read thru the ad itself carefully, and investigatingly,… you will find it really states ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW. It seems to me, you don’t really need to buy anything, if you just understand just what is given in the ad itself.)

Phil

I have not been able to live the certain way much yet at all. I feel I understand the intent of the book mostly through Rebecca's explanations.

There are some things in it I do naturally, but I have had some trouble staying grateful and positive. That's where the Abraham Hicks books come in handy. Their little exercises never fail to lift my mood, and then I can at least try to live the Certain Way.

That was just an example of how I use the relative part of the forum.

So in answer to the question stated originally asking if the book was enough? Not for me. Not right now. I need a little help, just like some folks take anti depressants. I need my mood lifters.

Thanks, Phil, your post is very helpful to me! I thought I was the only one that really didn't 'get it' after many readings of SOGR. It all sounds so simple, I thought the results would come quickly. Now I know there's a lot going on 'behind the scenes' in one's mind that actually blocks the results from coming until they're discovered/uncovered/discarded.

So now I know I choose to stay on the path and guard my thoughts/words/feelings!

The book is simply a way of thinking. Wealth is a consciousness. The first realization is that you love money and money loves you. That you are a money magnet. That you deserve to be rich. People talk about wealth sometimes in terms that are confusing. Rich is having money and plenty of if. Like Warren Buffett or Bill Gates or David Rockefeller. It is about realization and knowing. That is where it starts and this book is simply a way of thinking. It has to be about a way of doing.

In my experience (about 11 years since I first read SOGR), "doing" is definitely NOT what it's all about. Action is actually the last and least important part. It's not what creates or attracts. It's really just how you dive in and ENJOY what you are creating with your THINKING.

.ok, so how do I get my brain to STOP looking at not having it already? I mean, I spend time thinking/feeling that I already am living my dream life, and then I go about my day & before I know it, I'm feeling things like dissapointment that I don't really have it yet. It's like 'fake it till you make it' doesn't work for too long.

Megan, when you notice the not-so-good thoughts, think about something else that isn't so full of resistance. Really, ANYTHING else that feels better.

There's no need to "fake" anything.

ok, so how do I get my brain to STOP looking at not having it already?

Megan,

See if this helps.

Take something simple, like the desire to be in great shape and excellent health. Use this as an example of how to get anything you want in your life, in some good feeling, enjoyable, pleasant, fulfilling way.

So, taking this example, let’s assume your starting point is, you are in less than excellent health or in less than excellent physical condition or fitness. This is something your physical senses can easily tell you. So, this is your starting point.

Now, imagine the end result you want: You’re experiencing excellent health and you’re in great physical shape, really fit and loving being in your body.

Also, imagine you’ve figured out how to happily, peacefully and enjoyably attain and maintain this level of physical health and fitness. So, in your imagination you can imagine feeling great about being in great physical health and shape, loving being in your body. If you imagine this way, it becomes fairly easy to imagine and FEEL some good feelings.

How would you feel, if you were thoroughly enjoying being in your body? Maybe you’d feel delighted. Maybe you can imagine feeling pleased and delighted, as you imagine looking in the mirror and you see this terrific body. Or, in your imagination, as you move around in this terrific body, you notice how easy it feels to move around. Maybe you notice how FREE you feel, or how graceful and/or strong you feel. Maybe you notice you feel really pleased and even happy. Maybe you notice you even feel a sense of ease, peace and a profound inner sense of well being.

Notice and enjoy any, some or all of the good feelings you can imagine, as you imagine being in the body of your dreams. Or, as SOGR says, “Enter at once into the full enjoyment,…” of your wonderful, healthy, beautiful body.

Now, in your seemingly immediate, real, physical reality, it may seem nothing has happened, or is happening to your body. It still seems to be in the less than ideal shape or condition it was, before you did any of this ‘imagining.’ But by now you should have at least have some of the emotional experience of what it would be like for you, to be in the body of your dreams.

So, here is what you need to do, in your daily life. Spend a little time going back into your imagination and feel it again, the wonderful feelings of what it would be like to be in the body of your dreams,… and attaining it and maintaining it, in easy, joyful, happy, peaceful ways.

Now, whenever you do this sort of imagining and conjuring up of good feelings, notice if you get a hunch or an idea of something to do, some action to take, that would be completely HARMONIOUS with ease, flow, feeling good, happy, at peace, etc. If some HARMONIOUS action idea occurs to you, then take it. If no harmonious idea comes to you, then, for the time being, assume there is no physical action for you to take.

In case you’re wondering what easy, happy, peaceful action might occur to you, you might get the idea to drink some water. Or, you might get the idea to stretch a little. Or, you might get the idea to go and take a little walk. Or, you might get the idea to consciously breathe. Or, you might get the idea to do some sort of exercise that feels good to you. Or, you might get the idea to browse the Internet for some exercise or eating tips. You might get the idea to try some new food, or prepare a different kind of food, or to order something different at a restaurant. And you find out you actually like the taste of it, even though it’s ‘healthy.’ Or, it might ‘occur’ to you to take another look at Yoga. Or, you might get the idea that it would be fun to call a friend and go play a round of ping pong or tennis. Or, you just might get the idea to relax, and rest, and just enjoy being. That alone will help your body get into the magnificent shape you want it to be. So, in other words, you could get all kinds of happy, peaceful, easy, joyfully aligned ideas that would easily and effortlessly move you more into the experience of the wonderful healthy body you want.

On the other hand, you could also think about the wonderful body you want, and get impatient. You might even get irritated at the body you currently have. You might even get resentful of it. And, with this sort of mindset, you start getting feelings of frustration, and you start getting angry at yourself, and now you want to PUSH yourself, and FORCE yourself to take actions that you ‘think’ you need to, in order to get the wonderful body you want. This is the kind of ‘motivation’ you want to become wary of. It’s fear based and misleading, and will usually lead you on to a path where you’re NOT enjoying the journey of manifesting what you want.

If you just learn how to pay attention to how you feel, and let your good feelings ‘lead’ you, they will lead you into the happiest, most fulfilling, easy, pleasant and effective actions. And the results you want WILL come.

So, now. Can you see how this kind of strategy can be applied to anything you want, whether it’s more money at the end of the month (as opposed to more month at the end of the money) or better relationships, or a special intimate relationship, or a pleasanter environment, etc., etc.?

The wonderful thing about all this is, the better you get at imagining what you want, and experiencing good feelings with what you want, the more you become harmonious and aligned with what you really want, and then, all the pieces of what you really want start to easily come together. No struggling needed. No painful feelings needed to ‘motivate’ you. Just joy, love, peace and happiness, guiding you easily and effectively along, until one day, you look around and you are so amazed and awed at what you’ve brought about, so wonderfully.

“I imagined myself, over and over — even way back when I was a total poverty case — living a life of ease, strolling around my big white house on a hill, with nothing to do, sitting on several million worth of assets. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RU38mkE7vY

“Our emotions are powerful guidance systems, always telling us if the vibration of our thought is helping or hindering. Talk about an elaborate navigational system. We’ve been taught to believe we are at the mercy of our feelings and we should fear them, or even worse, ignore them.
Not only is it safe to listen to our emotions, it’s absolutely necessary if we intend to attract our desires. … Until we learn to listen to our emotions and train ourselves to feel better by focusing our thoughts differently, our lives will be haphazard sets of circumstances.” From ‘Feel It Real’ by Denise Coates - actress, life coach, author

"It is never too late to find a good feeling place about anything. Things will constantly change to match the feeling you have inside." Abraham-Hicks

“The feeling of health produces health. The feeling of wealth produces wealth.” Joseph Murphy in ‘The Power Of The Subconscious Mind’

“Just as every computer has a ‘language’ it uses to get things done,.. it appears the Universe has a ‘language’ as well, and it’s a language we call human emotions, and the power of feeling, and what we believe to be true in our lives. (00:20-00:41) If we can learn to feel as if the things we want to experience have already happened, that is the ‘language’ that this field (of Unlimited Potential, aka God) understands and acts in accordance with.” Gregg Braden – author of ‘The Divine Matrix’
() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...gMv4&feature=related

“Tending to your own thoughts and feelings and letting yourself become the perfect match to your desires brings you joy and peace. And I promise you that your own joy and peace are the keys to everything -- EVERYTHING -- you want, for yourself and others.” Rebecca Fine

You can learn to experience good feelings, and allow those good feeling to guide your actions.

As Abraham-Hicks say, action is meant to be delicious. Inspired action is delicious, most effective, effortless, and a joy to experience.

Megan, I think I really turned a corner when I realized the power of gratitude. When your brain won't stop, count your blessings. If people in the most intolerable circumstances, like Victor Frankl and more recently Immaculee Ilibagiza can find things to be grateful for, we surely can too.

Our friend Wally says,

“You cannot exercise much power without gratitude; for it is gratitude that keeps you connected with Power.”

What are ten things you are truly grateful for?

“It is necessary, then, to cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you; and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.”

All things? What does that mean? When I answered that question, it really made a difference. I decided, the next time I see something as bad (that's a whole other subject), I am going to be grateful. So, I was grateful for a very ornry neighbor. Every time something went "wrong" with that neighbor, I just played a little joke on myself and said aloud just how grateful I was. Ummm, I still don't believe this, but one by one, the multiple neighbors on this piece of property moved away. And the new buyer, has never moved in. But when they do, I'll be grateful.

Then I had a washer flood my bedroom and it took weeks to rebuild, replace, and recoup. But, since I had been in the practice of being grateful in all things, it was a cakewalk. I laughed, I sang, I really was grateful. And now I have a much more beautiful bedroom.

We can build our palaces with our misfortunes! But we don't realize it most of the time. They are opportunities for us to shine. And on the occasion when I am not shining as well as I like, I have the forums to be grateful for and seek the wisdom that will help me.

What are some things you see as bad that you can be grateful for? At first I literally started off just mouthing the words without feeling. Robotically, I am grateful for this bad thing. The next time it was easier. I really am grateful for this bad thing. And then the whole silly singing thing. Again, I'm not perfect at it, but it sure feels good when I remember. And it seems to resolve much more quickly with an attitude of gratitude than an attitude of grumpitude.

Try it. You might like it. When you feel the lack, find the abundance and be grateful.

Hi Dawn:

I rarely feel gratitude, but I always feel appreciation. The more I try to feel grateful, the more resistance I feel towards it. But feeling appreciation for what I already have, and even for some of the things I lost & don't have anymore, comes naturally to me.

Perhapd gratitude is too strong of a thing to get to when you're only at appreciation, right?
