What if the income tax is being misapplied?

I have read a great deal about how the income tax is being stretched and misapplied far beyond its lawful application. Perhaps you have read the same. For example, Subtitle C tells employers to withhold and collect "a tax" but this tax is never imposed; and supposedly Subtitle C withholding is the Victory Tax Act from WWII, which expired long ago.

My question is, suppose this is true. Suppose the income tax is being missapplied, and in truth it has nothing to do with most of us.

So what? What is the SOGR approach to this situation?

What attitude to take? What action to take?

What tax isn't being misapplied?

I'm new to SOGR, but believe that we should focus our attention and energy on that which we can control and change. I can't change the tax code. I put this in the same category as consuming too much news (Lesson #9?). I don't waste my time dwelling on it. I used to get crazy over taxes, news, gov't. and so on. When I let go (about 6 months ago), I felt free to focus my energy on what I could do.

I happily "render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's"....I just like to render as little as possible. I'm actually grateful to be paying taxes, that proves cash is coming in. I'm also grateful to have a fairly decent brain that has learned to look for every deduction possible.

Where I live, a "temporary" sales tax was put into place around 25 years ago. That "temporary" tax has been extended and increased too many times to count. I used to call my legislators, write, picket, e-mail, you name it. It's out of my control.

Why waste time and energy on the negative.

Just my thoughts.

Do not be concerned - unless that is part of your mission here. And even if it is, remember: it's all about the energy. You pay a tax or make a purchase or give a gift and it contributes to the universal flow. And when your tax dollars are spent, whether "misapplied" (in your eyes) or not, they also contribute to the flow.

Even when things take place that we consider "bad" or "wrong", because everything circulates, it eventually winds up contributing to what we call "good" or "right".

Hope that made sense.

No, I don't mean that I don't approve of how the money is spent.

I mean that the law says that person X must pay, and the IRS pretends that instead the law says that person Y must pay.

Or in the example of Subtitle C, the law says that tax Z expired after WWII, and yet the IRS says that tax Z is still in force.

So in other words, it's the LAW that is being misapplied by the IRS, and misquoted by accountants and other tax professionals.

Hi Rod,

A lot of chapters in SOGR address what you are asking about. I suggest you re-read at least chapters 4, 7 and 9. After having done that I'm curious to see if you can come up with your own answer about what the 'SOGR approach' would be in this case.
