Hello to you all.
First time on the forum. I have read the book several times but there is a question i must ask anybody who has been connected and applied the teachings over a period of time. I know we must be in a creative and not a competative mindset to recieve the blessings but i work in sales where the others in the company are very competative - in fact i have been used to believing its the only way to survive in this game but how? How does one STAY in the creative realm in this dog-eat-dog western society i live. It seems to me that your business is screaming for more of the creative mindset. I know it's hard when everyone else is rowing the other way, but that's exactly why I think it would work so well. I can think of two things you could do right now: (Before I get into them let me say I don't know what you sell, your style of selling or how you do business now so this is general advice that I've found works for me. Having said that...) 1. When you talk to your customers, really talk to them. Instead of wondering how much you can get them to buy, find out what they really need. And be honest with them. Ask yourself right before you talk to them "How can I help this person today?" And you'll find yourself noticing things you may never have noticed before. Don't over sell or push things they may not need. This might not earn you super high commisions in the now, but you'll be putting energy into the "thinking stuff" that'll come back to you ten-fold in the future (100-fold, a million-fold). 2. Don't just help your customers, help the other salespeople you know. Now that you know there is no competition because there's plenty for everyone, help them get theirs too. You may have developed a few tricks of the trade or secret weapons you always use to get in the door or close the customer or whatever. Share them. Help the others become better salespeople. Just say "Hey, you know what works real well for me?" And give them your gems. Just remember that there is enough for everyone. If one person makes a sale, it doesn't take away from you. I am also in sales and have found it very comforting to know that I do not have to be competitive but can create the sales out of the ether and have more than I need, and actually more than others that are stuck in the competition. I work as a wholesale loan rep where I help loan originators close loans with my company's products. My job is to get loans in through the door. The market in the US for mortgages is TIGHT and competitive. My clients call me first because if I can't do the loan I tell them who can. They even call me for loans that they can't do because they know that I will know who can. The point is, THEY call ME - not the other way around. I truly can't remember the last time that I called someone first (but know that I realize that I will start doing that again!). Being a resource is truly giving back more use value than cash value received and it feels good. One of the things that my clients also like is the thought for the week that I send out with inspirational sales quotes. It gets my name in front of them at the beginning of every week. I follow up with Did You Know emails on Wednesday and Joke of the Week on Friday. Once again, getting my name in front of them. I'm giving them a little extra and they end up hitting the reply button and sending scenarios for me to price that turn into deals for me and my company. The main thought is using Mr. Wattles' advice and giving more use value than I receive in cash value. Well, I expect a TON of cash value so I prime the pump by putting out a good amount of use value. And it comes back to me. I had a client call me yesterday with a $1.75 million dollar home purchase because he really wants to give me the loan because of all that I have done to help him. That's a good thing! It's doable and if feels good. You have much more peace with each sale and they tend to go smoother. You don't need to get your adrenaline all pumped up with the competition and feel all stressed out. Let me know if there is anything that I can do to help. I know that it might be scary to switch styles. But a great salesman is always willing to try something new and different ~ and what could me more different than not being competitive!!!! I too am in sales in what is essentially a very competitive market - supermarket sales. However, I do not feel particularly competitive about my role within it. My attitude is very much that if I have products which fill my customers' needs then that's wonderful and I am happy to help them. If not I am fine with them declining my offers/proposals because the last thing I want to do is to sell them something that they can't then onsell for a profit.
I never worry about where my sales will come from, I know that I won't have any problem meeting my targets because there is, (in my mind), plenty for everyone, and I BELIEVE I will achieve it. Stephanie |

I definitley know what you are talking about with the competitive mindest in your workplace. Continue to read SOGR as you will learn that you are the creator! You do the best you can with an advancing attitude while you are creating what you want. I would prefer to buy from a salesman that comes from a position of poise and advancement than technique. Also though it is competitive what do you want. I have a friend that just got downsized. He was a offered a 400K a year job. He told me he does not want it. This is one of the most competitive people I know, and admire. He wants to live life and I only say that for a short version as I have to leave. But I thought for sure he would want that new job. He wants to be out on his own. I will have to add more late because there is so much more to this story it is amazing! Steve17 |

Competitor or Creator? It is more fun to create and that is why I like to do it. Your mind is abundant and you can create what you think and believe. It might be that a competitor tries to destroy others creations, just my point of view. In business, you have to know the competiton and the product, price, and people. I like to connect with my friends and think of my clients as friends and would not do anything to harm my friends. More people will buy from you if they consider you their friend.

I think donald trump, jr has it right. I have developed relationships with my customers and I really want to do whatever I can do to help them and to be of service to them. I am sincere in my approach and it shows.
