Hello everyone. New reader to SOGR and a new poster as well! Hope you'll excuse me if I ask some questions that may have already been answered or seem obvious. Having followed other great writers before I found Mr Wattles work, I'm quite used to doing affirmations. Although I've only read SOGR once I don't remember there being any mention of doing affirmations. Do you guys combine affirmations with your CMI (just found out what that is :-))? Many thanks Matthew

Hi Matthew, Affirmations can be a useful tool for keeping your thoughts on your CMI. They can also be useful in keeping your mind OFF negative thinking. Bottom line is: if it works for you, keep on doing it! Wishing you peace and prosperity. Polly. You are not mentally developed by what you read, but by what you think about what you read - Wallace D. Hi Matthew, As a newbie, I too, thought about this and finally I came to think of my CMI as an affirmation on steriods. It's not just reciting a list. It is believing your heart's desire is already yours, and the universe is in the process of delivery. You already know how it feels, and how you feel possessing it. You know how it smells and sounds and what product cleans it the best With a CMI this this clear, I want to think about it because it feels so good...and plain old affirmations just don't measure up any more. Of course, everyone is different, and there are lots of threads where others have shared what works for them. Use the "find" option to search some of them. I am at peace. Chartruze

Welcome Matthew, Whats important is whatever fills you with enthusiasm and joy. Whatever you can draw from in both leisure and in moments during your busy day when you find yourself feeling bad. Its what ever can shift you to feeling great. In other words, if it helps you to keep your attention on what you want- go for it.

Hi Mathew, Here's what the book say's in chapter 8, page 29 "You do not make this impression by repeating strings of words; you make it by holding the vision with unshakable PURPOSE to attain it and with steadfast FAITH that you do attain it. The answer to prayer is not according to your faith while you are talking, but according to your faith while you are working. You cannot impress the mind of God by having a special Sabbath day set apart to tell him what you want, and then forgetting him during the rest of the week. You cannot impress him by having special hours to go into your closet and pray, if you then dismiss the matter from your mind until the hour of prayer comes again. Oral prayer is well enough, and has its effect, especially upon yourself, in clarifying your vision and strengthening your faith, but it is not your oral petitions which get you what you want. In order to get rich you do not need a sweet hour of prayer; you need to pray without ceasing. And by prayer I mean holding steadily to your vision, with the purpose to cause its creation into solid form, and the faith that you are doing so. Believe that ye receive them. Once you have clearly formed your vision, the whole matter turns on receiving. When you have formed it, it is well to make an oral statement, addressing the supreme in gratitude. Then, from that moment on you must, in mind, receive what you ask for." I use affirmations myself. I love using them and they help me make a shift in my immediate thinking which then allows me to focus on my cmi with faith and purpose. It's like cleaning out the clutter and realigning myself. Do whatever works for you if it's bringing you success. Appreciation from the Heart, Richard De Haven

Hi Matthew, the one thing I have found to be an absolute truth is that even affirmations need to be worded in "A certain way,"

Thanks Truity. I think maybe I need to go back to my affirmations and check them I also think I may be making them too complicated. I got the ideas from Anne Marie Evers (whose work I repect) but maybe I need to hone them down a little and check they are really working for and not against me. Thanks again.

Matthew, the ONLY reason for using affirmations is if they cause you to feel better. If they help you let go of resistance (for example, take your focus off the LACK of what you want) so that you are JOYFULLY expectant, knowing that what you want is a done deal and all you have to do is relax into that knowing and let it come, then they're great. For some people, though, they tend to highlight the "why isn't it here yet?" feeling and so they won't be of any value. Just begin to pay attention to how you feel, moment by moment. That's your inner guidance that ALWAYS lets you know where your thoughts are REALLY focused! Love & blessings, and, of course-- EXPECT Success! Rebecca

Hello Matthew, Welcome here. I have several sets of affirmations. Some came to me from teachers, some I wrote myself. I am also collecting quotes which can be great affirmations. I even have a subliminal CD with my own affirmations in my own words but I do not play it daily anymore because I dislike headphones. I use them whenever I think of it, many times I just make one or two up in the spur of the moment. Saying out loud that I am grateful for something in my life. Makes me feel extra happy. And I use them to keep myself on the right track. Especially after some unwanted exposure to someone else's "affirmations". I'd say, use them in any way that makes you feel better and richer! Just don't make them into a daily "should" because SOGR is about FREEDOM. A happy day to you! Caroline

Thanks Rebecca and Caroline for your replies. Some eye opening reading actually. I think sometimes my affirmations do make me feel like "why isn't it here yet" and I also think I sometimes do them because I should rather than because I want to. I find that as a person I need to try lots of new things to keep my thinking and motivation up - often going round a circle in perhaps a few weeks, coming back to something I had "given up on". Lately, writing down all the things I am grateful for has made me feel wonderful and very motivated. Sometimes just doing a short affirmation in the morning can really get me going and feeling alive. Perhaps I need to stop doing what I feel I should and start doing what I feel....(if that makes sense :-)) Thanks again for these posts. This is a wonderful resource. Kind regards Matthew

Hi Matthew, thanks for your reply, glad to be of help, sometimes people use positive affirmations as a means to stop mind chatter, and keep them focused on what they want. I tend to be a feeling person and always work with the energy of joy and being excited to keep me on track. All my life I have known the principles of what Mr Wattles teaches, the difficult thing for me I suppose was that the world didnt think like I did. It is so good to see so many people becoming aware, and truly understand how our inner compas is totally aligned when we feel happy.

Thank you Matthew, for this thread. Thank you Truity, for your words of wisdom. You have helped me see where I was coming unstuck. I think my most frequent affirmation for the future must be. "I'm doing this because I want to." Love and success to all Gwen
