What happened? Did we get what we wanted? Please help!

Greetings to all you wonderful people. It's always good to hear all the experiences that are openly shared on the forum. This to me, is one sure example of abundance in our world. I always come across something that goes 'ping!' at the back of my mind and makes me look at things from a different angle! Thanks once again.

Now, I have a quick question. I mentioned it in my very first post that we bought a property (house) that we 'wanted' but not 'really' wanted. Could it be that we were not very specific on what we desired and the formless gave us just a house, any house? This was of course before discovering the SOGR. OK, here is a brief description of what happened:

We had been renting the house (the same one that we bought) from a sweet old man for about two years (since late 2004). We were planning on getting our own home right about this time of the year , this year. Now, we had an agreement with the owner that if he wanted us to move out, he would give us ample notice (at least 4 months) to find alternative.

Unfortunately, early this year, the old man got terribly ill, got hospitalised for over two months. We never knew this as we had just returned from a month long leave and we always paid the rent straight into his mortgage account. His phone was off. Letters from the bank piled up. I assume they were trying to reach him but to no avail. What we didn't know is that he had heavily defaulted on an extra amount that he was supposed to be paying on his mortgage (he had defaulted before and got off with a warning after settling the arrears). The bank decided to re-possess the property and put it on sale (which meant we had no time to find suitable accomodation if somebody bought the house).

We were scared that the new owner would just come and evict us. We desperately tried to look for accomodation within our limits, for the short period we thought we had, to no avail. We had heard stories whereby people had been evicted from houses a day or two after going under the hammer!

We tried all we could to see if we could stop the auction, but were told that the ONLY option we had was to be at the auction ourselves and participate so that we buy the house (if we were interested)! That sounded preposterous!

Firstly, we had no money (so we thought) to go and bid (in addition to having no idea of how auctions work!). Secondly, even if we could find the money (we had ONLY one day to do that when we got this info) there was no way (so we thought again) we could beat all the other bidders (see that??. We were told that there are some big businesses that bid highly for the property and buy in bulk for re-sale)! Thoughts of lack, scarsity, competition..mmmm. Surely, that was depressing. Well we had no other option (so we thought yet again) other than await our fate.

BUT, here is what happened: two days before the auction, somebody rang me while I was on my way from work and told me he was waiting for me at home. I had never met him before. After talking to him and he explained that he was looking for the owner of the house so that he could help him stop the auction. He showed us his papers and he looked genuine.

He assured us that his business dealt with such type of issues and that if the owner agreed, he would then find a buyer for him. He (the owner) would then get a little something as opposed to nothing if the house went under the hammer (since he still owed the bank very big bucks). We then told him, right there, that if the old man wanted to sell, we were willing to buy the house from him since it was like our home - we actually hated the idea of moving!

This gentleman traced the owner to a hospital bed, explained the situation to him and the old man truthfully explained that he could not manage to redeem the house.

OK, in short, the auctioning of the house was stopped and we ended up getting hustle-free finance from one of the banks and bought the property. It is a good house (though not in the ideal location we want). The old man got out of hospital, got his share of the money and we visit him once in a while. The estate agent has become a very good friend of the family too! Everyone is happy. And we are grateful.

Now what I need clarification on is this: before buying the house, we always had conflicting ideas. There is very nice a place that we really wanted (and still want) to buy in (close to work, shops, school for our two daughters, etc) BUT (a big 'but') the properties in this are a bit overboard on prices.

We were also then always saying: "maybe we should just buy here" (meaning the same place that we bought in) or "even this same house.. Houses are at least affordable this side.." BUT.. but.. but...(see what I mean?). All those thoughts.

Do you think we got what we desired? We are thinking of other things that we want now (even a bigger house in the area that we previously thought is expensive). Well, after reading the SOGR, I am thinking from a different perspective now. However, as it possibly takes a bit of time to really start thinking and acting in a certain way, what is the best way forward?

Thank you all. Expect Success!

NOTE: I am using 'we' as it is I and my wife. She is not on the SOGR yet, but I have given her a copy of the book to read. I want her to first read it on her own then possibly share her own views. I do not want to 'drag' her into believing these wonderful ideas.

Well firstly, congratulations on your house! It sounds like things are definantly going for you!

Your on your way to getting what you desire. Its all stepping stones leading to it. Your CMI is always changing and having things added or taken away from it. I think thats part of all the fun.

Three years ago my partner and I bought our house we're still living in. I truely love my house but its not my 'dream' home, that is coming up next. But getting this house was the first step towards my dream home.

Maybe you weren't totally specific about your house, but I do think you were presented with a wonderful opportunity to get you started. You got given a great big shove by the universe to propel you into action and has put things in motion.

Before buying this house I had many restrictions as well as far as size and price went, but getting the house I did has helped show me I don't have to place restrictions on what I ask for. I just have to think of exactly what I want!

Enjoy your house!

Well, Nixon, I don't know if you got what you wanted or not. That's up to you.

But it sure sounds like you got what you focused your thoughts on, doesn't it?

And that's the key!

Love & blessings, and, of course--
EXPECT Success!

Hi Nixon-

Congrats on the new house!!!

I'd like to offer a different perspective on your current turn of events, if I may. First, how great that you didn't have to move. Second, now that you own the home, your not paying a landlord your paying yourself, which means you are on the right path to your dream home whatever and wherever it may be.

By owning your own home you opened a whole new world of opportunity for you and your wife. For example, maybe you could make additional money by renting to someone such as the previous owner did, or maybe you pay it off early and use the equity to buy a different home, and so on and so on. The possibilities are endless.

I'm going to recommend to you David Bach's "The Automatic Millionaire - Homeowner" It is a fabulous book!
*Sidenote - This book does not conflict with SOGR principles and is not related to it's teachings. It is a completely different subject.*
With that said I think it will help with your current situation.

Again, congratulations. I think it's great that you and your wife are in line with your dreams.

All the best.

Jenn
